Just my opinion, I think Doyle goes no farther than AAA next season and Franklin not beyond AA.
What about Matthews?
Just one fan's opinion, but I think they start him at AAA next season. (If I were giving odds, I'd put it at 80%) If his shoulder is healthy and he can cut down on the walks I would see them promoting him at that time. Not impossible that he breaks camp with the Cards, but he is going to have to "wow" somebody.
Agree.
After 2024 Mathews was getting on some people's short list to be a part of 2025. The scenario repeats itself every season.
It's one of the roles of the #5 SP. Provide innings and protect prospects who need time. It just shouldn't cost $18 million to get.

Doyle was the second ranked prospect on many gurus draft sheets.
He will be up in 2026.
Count me doubtful. 1) He needs to work on developing secondary pitches, 2) There is no need to call him up next season, 3) If he is not on the major league roster when the lockout begins he can continue to pitch. The experience he would gain doesn't offset these things.
Agreed. The secondary pitches definitely need work, and there’s really no rush. It’s one of those situations where box score scouting may be misleading—the best thing for him would be to get knocked around a little working on his secondary pitches rather than just blowing guys away with his fastball at AA.

Hilarious. Maybe $15M for another go around with the Lizardman...I am all for the Cardinals doing this right, lets develop these guys, Doyle, Franklin etc. for all of 2026. Lets make sure they are ready by 2027. They can get cheap veteran SP for $4-5M. I am not that excited about another season with Pallante, perhaps Leahy surprises to the upside, Liberatore and McGreevy and continue to develop with another veteran they sign. If we are really lucky, Bloom acquires a ML ready SP this offseason, but, that would be a surprise. By 2027, there should be quite the competition for rotation spots...assuming no more major injuries...

We’re just one good Spring Training outing away from Shady demanding that Doyle make the opening day roster, claiming, as usual, that he is the “only one” who “believes in” Doyle against all the “doubters,” “skeptics,” and “haters” who want him to continue to develop in the minors.
Another example of you being obsessed and presumptuous. Why is a poster so "unimportant", so scrutinized by some?

The Cardinals pitching staff could sure use some help from some flame-throwers that miss a lot of bats. They aren't likely to make the club out of spring training. But could both Doyle and Franklin reach AAA later in the season? And be on the doorstep of a call up.
Doyle hasn't even been through the minors. I wouldn't count on him any time soon. He may never be a decent starter in the MLB. Many a slip between the cup and lip.

Pallante has some qualities that would serve him in the #5 however without a significant
step forward we will never see them.

Ugh. Work stoppage. I had put that out of mind. Good point.
