Re: Colton Ellis
I won my bet. I just knew I’d wake up to at least one “Colton Ellis was our would be savior” posts after last nights game.
Did anyone actually watch that game? I did, and Buffalo was all over Edmonton. Yeah, Ellis made a few nice saves but he had a relatively easy night because the team in front of him played great. So everyone just pump the brake.

I was watching - he had a very solid game with the announcers were talking about how he makes it look easy with his positioning being ideal.Backesdraft wrote: ↑18 Nov 2025 07:04 am I won my bet. He's had two good games and two bad games apparently.

All three of you spot on with all comments, in particular with their view/plan for UPL.stlblue06 wrote: ↑06 Nov 2025 16:05 pmI was referring to after the season started. I agree that the goaltending was perfectly fine going into the season. There has been a stretch of 3 straight and now 4 out of 5 where Binnington has clearly been off while Hofer has slowly been gaining his confidence back. It would have been a perfect time to give Elis a shot in one of these Binnington game’s hypotheticallySTL fan in MN wrote: ↑06 Nov 2025 15:50 pmSure, they could have, if they wanted to. It would’ve just required the Blues to not have kept someone else instead to stay under the 23-man roster limit. At the beginning of the season, that likely would’ve been Texier. Currently, with Jake on IR, it’d probably be either Dvorsky that’d be sent back down or again Texier.stlblue06 wrote: ↑06 Nov 2025 15:09 pmOf course this is the first time since 2019 that the Blues goaltending has been so bad that an AHL call up has been needed for a start or 2. Could the Blues have carried 3 goalies for a short period if Elis was never claimed?STL fan in MN wrote: ↑06 Nov 2025 14:31 pmI hadn’t seen that from Friedman but that’s disappointing…but also smart. Ellis is legit IMO. Lyon is playing way better than expected this season and UPL is a JAG starter IMO. A starter really only because he was the best the Sabres had for a couple years really.IsDurbanodoingtime wrote: ↑06 Nov 2025 13:48 pm For what it's worth Friedman is reporting that the Sabres have every intention of keeping Ellis. Maybe it is something like trading or waiving Lyon to see if anyone bites on his contract believing he is an upgrade on their backup. It doesn't help Ellis' game for him to continually sit. Something has to give shortly.
Agree something has to give eventually. If I were them, I’d try to trade UPL but he costs the most and is playing the worst of the 3 so probably not a great market for him out there.
I’m still hoping we can get Ellis back somehow but it’s looking less and less likely unfortunately.
That said, Binner was lights out in the preseason and Hofer was fine too. There was basically no indication our goaltending would fall apart in the early parts of this season. And teams generally hate keeping 3 goalies as there’s really only 2 nets in practice and you then have to carry one less forward or d-man as well. I don’t fault the Blues at all for not foreseeing their 2 goalies falling to (bleep) and inexplicably carrying 3 goalies. I fault them for a lot of things but not that.
That said, I still hold out hope we can get Ellis back. It might be a while though as Buffalo has the roster and cap flexibility to keep 3 goalies for a while. But maybe that changes if they’re hit with some injuries and they need a roster spot for a forward or D and it just doesn’t make sense to carry 3 goalies anymore.
….oh and I just saw a post on X from an insider that the Sabres have every intention on keeping Ellis. Strange they only give him the 1 start after playing so well in it.

I question your eyesight. Have you not seen the 1 million replies on BluesTalk that Buffalo is no good, will never be good, are laughingstock because they they are rebuilding via the NHL draft? You clearly did not watch that game closely enough. Buffalo is NO GOOD because they have TOP5 picks.Backesdraft wrote: ↑18 Nov 2025 07:04 am I won my bet. If you think that the Ellis is Savior replies are obnoxious in their predictability, you need to take a gander at the Buffalo/TOP5-pick haters.

I heard media in Buffalo calling it the Heist of the Millennium.

I like Buffalo. Always have and I have a friend from there that is a diehard. But holy cow, you'd hope that team would turn the corner.
But so far they are 7-8-4 after 19 games with 18 points and in last place (Blues have 16 pts.)
I'm pulling for Ellis, but he's been inconsistent, but does give some hope. Hopefully that team can build on yesterday's win.

Re: Colton Ellis
Their fans deserve a playoff spot. They have run through potential starters dating back to Lehner whi have not oanned. UPL and Levi were going to be there future tandem. Ellis' trajectory will be interesting - i still would rather have Hofer going forward though.somni wrote: ↑18 Nov 2025 11:30 am I like Buffalo. Re: Colton Ellis
Ellis gives up 4 3rd period goals to Calgary (a game tied 2 -2 after 2). Looked a little positionally suspect. Not sure this three goalie platoon is promoting his development. Adams needs to make a decision on one of the other two.

Wait, this can’t be right. We were told that the Blues’ downfall began with Army’s mismanagement of Ellis. No way our would-be savior would give up 4 goals in one period to the worst team in the NHL.IsDurbanodoingtime wrote: ↑19 Nov 2025 21:25 pm Ellis gives up 4 3rd period goals to Calgary (a game tied 2 -2 after 2). Are you hoping Ellis sucks just so Army doesn’t look bad? I know some here are doing that with Bolduc and it’s weird.Backesdraft wrote: ↑19 Nov 2025 21:43 pmWait, this can’t be right. I think Army has all his family members posting on this board. The excuses that people are willing to make for his poor decisions is beyond absurd.juan good eye wrote: ↑19 Nov 2025 22:44 pmAre you hoping Ellis sucks just so Army doesn’t look bad? I’m not defending Army. I am, however, making fun of the know nothings who think having Ellis on this roster would have turned things around. For all of you who think the Blues got fleeced here, go back to the beginning of the season and take a gander at how many other goalies (with potential) got picked up via waivers. Don’t let the data ruin your agenda though.
Re: Colton Ellis
I dont think he would have turned things around but we could have gotten value for hofer and ellis was doing amazing at the ahl level. I think we should have traded hofer and let ellis come up,Backesdraft wrote: ↑20 Nov 2025 06:59 amWell if we’re going to get into a pissing match I guess let’s go.son_of_foolsgold wrote: ↑20 Nov 2025 06:30 amI think Army has all his family members posting on this board. I don't think that anybody is saying that one player is going to turn this trainwreck around but at the same time the Blues sucked before Binnington became a starter and we all know how that turned out.Backesdraft wrote: ↑20 Nov 2025 06:59 am I’m not defending Army.
