I think what happens is one other person expresses an opinion, it caves you. Like you are unable to feel confident in yourself as long as any other person could talk [shirt], regardless of how right or wrong they are. Then you get annoyed, upset, actually bothered (per your character's narrative) at the opinion of the other person. It becomes your master. That's a really sad way to be in life, fyi. You yourself raved over Carbonneau, were you wrong too? I guess
