Practice lines today

Post by Harry S Deals »

Holloway-Thomas-Snuggerud
Schenn-Dvorsky-Kyrou

Toropchenko-Sundqvist-Walker

Broberg-Parayko
Fowler-Faulk
Tucker-Kessel
Extra: Skinner

Binnington
Hofer

Throwing some names back in the hat. I dont see Dvorsky as ready to be the 2C yet, its not that im disappointed in his performance but whatever line hes been put on seems disconnected. His line gets hemmed in their own end a lot, aside from a few shifts with Suter lately he rarely gets o zone time so im sure that line will be broken up.
I think Buch on the 3rd line is where he belongs he needs to find his offence thru checking and be with checkers right now, chaos, not over thinking it. I feel bad for the dude and others its never that they dont care

You have to more than care, you have to demand of yourself a standard of excellence.

They do care, but not enough to refuse to allow this to happen to them. Since they routinely are drained of momentum with a single adverse circumstance they are clearly failing to refuse to allow it to happen. They are mentally beat and that is on them as people.

I thought Skinner played really well Friday night. But then he sits Saturday (fine.....a rotation between the bottom three guys) and now is an extra at today's practice. I want to see him in the lineup on a regular basis at this point unless he proves he can't do it. We pretty much know what we have in Kessel and Tucker and they aren't the answer.

They had a 2 goal lead the other day and gave it up, then rebuilt it again only to lose it. I'd say they had the mental toughness to fight back after losing it the first time. This team isn't very committed to playing team defense in their own end. Too many players looking lost in the zone and not working well as a cohesive 5 man unit. It didn't help the goalies played like [shirt] at first but that's not the problem now.

108 NHL forwards have skated for 250+ minutes at even strength. Of those forwards, only five have scored zero even strength goals. One of those players, (and the most expensive), is Pavel Buchnevich.

Buch's one primary point at even strength is tied for dead last.

Agreed. I think it also speaks to Harry's point about Monty's fatigue setting in - he's just throwing names into a blender at this point, maybe without enough thought behind it. It must be exhausting to keep track of how many players he has to protect and in what ways.

Kyrou needs a defensive babysitter.
Thomas needs someone with heart.
Dvorsky needs a savvy veteran.
Neighbours is coming back from injury.
Walker can't be overexposed.
Sundqvist can't be overused.

Stillman tried to reboot and avoid a rebuild. I hope it's clear to him that this approach hasn't worked and isn't likely to. For every Washington that pulls it off, there are four BOS, TOR, VAN, CAL, or NSH that fail at it - sometimes spectacularly.

Throw it all downriver for Ivar.

Neighbours (leg) participated in Monday's practice and appears to be nearing a return to the lineup, Lou Korac of NHL.com reports.

Neighbours will accompany the Blues on the team's upcoming five-game road trip and will likely return at some point during that stretch. However, he will miss his 12th straight game against Toronto on Tuesday, according to Korac. The 23-year-old Neighbours has six goals, one assist, 12 shots on net and 20 hits through eight appearances this season.

An early return for Neighbors is as good as it will get for a “shake up” and certainly a trade at this point in the season. He’s exactly what the Blues lack as a whole in the grit category.

They have needed to add an established physical stay at home defender for a long time. Suter for 1 year at 40 was the closest they came. To pencil in LM as a regular player with 2 other inexperienced dmen was strange to say the least. It really felt like Army wanted to make a big move just to make a big move in his final year as a GM. The Kyrou NTC got him talking then he had to do something with the juices flowing

Please trade Buch when Neighors return or waive/trade Texier. At this point I believe Tex would clear?

Monty just said Neighbours wasn't going tomorrow but he will at some point on this trip. Which I guess would be about a week or so ahead of schedule.

I have 1 complaint about Monty, and it's the line juggling. It is what it is today. I'd be doing the same thing if the level of play was where it's at today. But he dropped the ball in the first couple weeks by doing it. He shouldn't have messed with the lineup out of the gate. Which shows we were overconfident in the preseason games not putting real lines together. They wanted to experiment with how players might play top end wise.

This was an odd move for this franchise whos always been quick to add a veteran on D if they needed it. Could it be the Blues have an imposed $95 million cap? The Blues came into the season with about $4.5 ish in cap space, odd they didnt go get some insurance, could have made a big difference esp for LM

Boston is 1st in the Atlantic, Toronto was never "Rebooted" not with the "Core 4" intact until this year, now they have to start "booting". Nashville tried to buy their way out. Vancouver? Would love to see you explain how the Blues and 'Nucks were built similarly. I'm at the point of no longer caring. I have WAY too many things in this world to occupy my anger. The Blues aren't even Top 10.

I’m tired of the blender, especially on defense for no reason. Agree on Buch that he needs to be demoted. I don’t think it’s a matter of caring either, but he’s always been streaky/mopey and that’s where he is right now. Add to that a declining skillset and he’s just not good.

I wish Monty would also put Fowler/Parayko and Bro/Faulk back together. Those pairs gelled better.

At forward, I still think they need the guys who drag others into the fight playing together. Bolded guys below drag others into it. Dvo may or may not be ready but I’m glad he’s here. With Jake back, I like:

Jake - Thomas - Snuggs
Holloway - Schenn/Dvo -Kyrou
Schenn - Suter - Joseph/Buch
Walker - Sunny/Bjug - Toro

Joseph and Schenn seem to genuinely enjoy playing together. Those two with Neighbours was good. Buch has sucked so bad though that they need Jake to play higher up.
