I-70
Hopefully, one day the I-70 "improvement" construction will be finished & our trips to CoMo will be much easier. Closed lanes, narrow lanes, jogs & shifts made a crowded hwy even more fun. After making 8 trips this football season, I've had it. I like to attend a few b-ball games, too, but fighting the traffic in the dark really stinks. It took an hour to get to Kingdom City last night after the game! If you live on the East side of the state (I supposed the West is bad too.) I'm sure you've "enjoyed" your gameday trips this year. I'd like to know who thought of the divided West bound lanes earlier this Fall. If you were in the left lane, you had concrete barriers on both sides of you. A couple of times there were crashes in that lane. Everyone stuck behind the crash was trapped. If the vehicle(s) were inoperable, the lane would be closed until a wrecker could back down the lane several miles to get to the wreck! Troopers would close both lanes to allow the wrecker to get to get to the end of the divided section from the next exit. So, everyone would be stuck. Next year the hwy will be new. The North end zone will be finished, Drink will be... & life will be perfect! Right?
Re: I-70
It’s bad on the west side as well. Took 45 minutes to get from Blue Springs to Oak Grove…and that was at 11 AM. That being said, on areas east of there, tremendous progress has been since the Alabama game. I was amazed last week how much had been done. The target completion date is 2030. My goal is to live long enough to see it.
My understanding is the north end zone is scheduled to be completed in 2027. My fear is the expansion of expensive boxes and suites was inspired by 2024 and 2025 sellouts. In 2024, parking passes were selling for more than tickets to the KState game. From 2016 through 2023, Lot X was a virtual ghost town. 8-4 this year followed by maybe worse next, has all the makings of an expensive white elephant.

You are exactly right with this post. There are accidents mainly at night with people coming home. It's bad and going to get worse. Mizzou will start seeing quite a few no shows from both sides of the state except for the really big games.

Your understanding is wrong. The north endzone will be ready for the start of next season. It will be glorious.Red7 wrote: ↑16 Nov 2025 14:52 pm It’s bad on the west side as well. Re: I-70
I 70 needs to be a 6 lane toll road --- with packages for all our local users to minimize the pain as much as possible... too many truckers use 70 because there are no tolls and they destroy the pavement. Tolls would chase a bunch of them to other east/west hwys and generate enough revenue to maintain 70 from those who remain.

Re: I-70
There are a lot of Semi's & with all the narrow construction lanes it does get gnarly. I never thought about tolls. I guess most of the other East-West Interstates have tolls. I have to drive because my wife won't pass a truck in those narrow sections. I do "hit the easy button" especially on the way back to STL. I'm in no hurry. Try to stay around 75 MPH except in zones. There are some "aggressive drivers" going much faster than that. Okay with me. With all the construction they probably arrive home a few minutes before me.
Alcohol sales are probably a big money maker. There was a group in my row that must have purchased a truck load. They were in & out for most of the game then all left early in the 4th. At those prices I wouldn't have been able to afford stadium cocktails when I was in school.

Re: I-70
This for sure. Missouri is late to the party on tolls. Every other state gets the revenue but not us. It definitely helps preserve and repair the road damage and brings money into the general revenue.greyhawk wrote: ↑17 Nov 2025 18:29 pm I 70 needs to be a 6 lane toll road --- with packages for all our local users to minimize the pain as much as possible... too many truckers use 70 because there are no tolls and they destroy the pavement. If you're gonna go tolls, go big. Bring in the Hyperloop ferry system. 700mph and you can pull your car directly on it if you don't want to have to Uber around your destination. A half hour STL to KC trip as compared to 3+ hours. Finally be able to get some "local" Whataburger, as it seems STL ain't ever going to even get a whiff of one.bgwinn01 wrote: ↑18 Nov 2025 09:00 amThis for sure. Try driving 55 in narrow, posted 55-mph work zones and count the number of cars that will race by you and the semis squeezing between the barrier and the right-hand lane doing the same. You have to hope they don't veer ...

1. Someone could make a lot of money creating a shuttle service to an from Mizzou games in both St. Louis and Kansas City.
2. There are some ways to get to Columbia avoiding much of 70 of course depending on where in the area you live and how much time you have. I often take 47, 63, or 19 to get back home.

Isn't this the construction timeline? From Chatgpt
Construction is currently underway on multiple segments, with the first project (Columbia to Kingdom City) beginning in June 2024 and expected to finish in late 2027. The overall program is expected to be completed by the end of 2030.

Re: I-70
don't do live sports anymore as the chaos is too much for me, don't like crowds. But I do go to my cabin up by Macon quite a bit so have to travel 70 and yes it is funneling you thru barriers but have never had anything but smooth traffic thru it and usually have a front door that whisks me along at a good clip.
Is what it is and will be better when done. Agree on Toll roads as truckers if they have a choice would do another route if they can BUT if they are going to KC or Denver or points in between what would make economic sense for them to go?
