Blues
The narrative here on Cards Talk the past few years has been how well run the Blues are and that at least the Blues "try to win".
Well, how's that going for everyone?
I don't think any team in St. Louis gets more of a free pass for constantly underachieving and being bad than the Blues.

Re: Blues
The Blues have only won the Stanley Cup once but it was in 2019. The Cardinals haven't won the World Series since 2011. The Blues bought themselves some time.cardinalsfever44 wrote: ↑15 Nov 2025 13:28 pm The narrative here on Cards Talk the past few years has been how well run the Blues are and that at least the Blues "try to win".

Re: Blues
Well the blues overachieved last year(weren’t supposed to make the Playoffs), took the best regular season team to the brink of elimination in the first round and the GM publicly stated he wasn’t happy with that.
He fired a coach for no other reason than to bring in a better one
While within the rules, he did Edmonton an absolute dirty by snatching away 2 building blocks for the roster and gave absolutely zero f***s about it. (One of them playing elite level hockey before getting injured thus missing the entire playoff series, see my first point)
They have missed out on three playoff appearances in the last 10 years(1 Stanley Cup, which everyone else in the league but the lightning has either 1 or 0)
They aren’t getting a free pass. They most certainly get chit on. They most certainly do not underachieve though and yes it is easier to give them some leeway on the hate when they not only publicly state but also show the fanbase they are doing absolutely everything they can to win.
Nice try though, Mo.

14th in their 16 team conference
29th out of 32 teams.
Freaking awesome!

I love how you believe I’m the one with the soft response as you A. Didn’t have any retort to anything other than mimicking what I said in one single bullet point.
Can’t make this up

You barely snuck into the playoffs and exited in round 1 in a sport where 50% of the teams make the playoffs. Absolutely amazing job!!!

Unsteady ownership and financial problems marred the franchise for the first 30-40 years of its existence.cardinalsfever44 wrote: ↑15 Nov 2025 13:28 pm The narrative here on Cards Talk the past few years has been how well run the Blues are and that at least the Blues "try to win".

I don't think any team in St. Louis gets more of a free pass for constantly underachieving and being bad than the Blues.
There's a true story that after a playoff loss in the 80's the team couldn't afford to fly the players home and had to ask Bernie Federko their HOF center to use his credit card to get some of the players home on a commercial flight.
The Lauries in the early 2000's and then Stillman's current group finally has provided some stability.
The Cardinals have never had those problems at least not in my lifetime.

1 championship in 50+ years. Following a partial “reset” attempted by Army, the awkwardly constructed roster can only hope to compete for 1st first round playoff exits for the foreseeable future. Mediocrity.
Like how Moran the Cards, tens of millions have been wasted on FA acquisitions + extensions with no true superstars coming up through the system.
Also, talking about the last 10 years is a bit of Crannyish. What happened 5-10 years ago is irrelevant to the current team as constructed. The Cup team ran its course, was prematurely effed by the GM, and nothing of legendary substance has materialized since. The day that changes will be a great day.
Yeah they took the Jets seven last year. A great playoff goaltender can steal a series and a head case can choke one away. Let’s not do the hope and prayer thing.

Nope. Just pointing out how odd it is that one team is praised for how well it is run, while the other is criticized to no end, and the results are basically exactly the same.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑15 Nov 2025 22:38 pmSo are you happy the blues suck as much as the cardinals? In one point you say the last 5-10 years is irrelevant
In another you feel it’s necessary to bring up their lack of Cups in the last 50 years…….
Also love it when people use that argument when trying to defend the Cardinals and bash the Blues. The ole “1 championship in their entire history!!!” As scouty also did earlier
I love that argument because if we go by that logic then we should all consider the As one of the Crown Jewels of Baseball. See how silly that is now?
Also love that argument because whenever I mention that, those that use that logic suddenly appear to need to take a long term hiatus from the thread

Re: Blues
The Blues were trending in the correct direction for becoming a serious contender entering this season. Nothing has gone correctly this year and the team has been a train wreck. They did not get a free pass on their board even before the season. There were plenty on their board who hammered them for a trade with Montreal. There was also one who under multiple screen names hammered them for not tearing it down and playing for a top five pick. They are not currently getting a free pass.cardinalsfever44 wrote: ↑15 Nov 2025 13:28 pm The narrative here on Cards Talk the past few years has been how well run the Blues are and that at least the Blues "try to win".

What the Blues do far better than the Cardinals is invest far more of their revenues back into the player roster.
