Jim Montgomery knows more than we do about coaching in the NHL. If he thinks a "finicky, streaky player" needs to not be coddled, I'll trust him.Ziggy3 wrote: ↑14 Nov 2025 12:36 pmSeems pretty obvious I'm talking about the current coach who seems reluctant to go with what's already given him the most success??desertrat23 wrote: ↑14 Nov 2025 12:16 pmYeah, he is who he is. At some point don't you have to realize and accept what he is? If he's going to be on the roster (and to be clear, wouldn't upset me if he wasn't), he has to be a producer. And a finnicky, streaky player like he is has to be in the right spot to produce. So far we've never seen him in a better spot to do that than when he was with Holloway last season, and almost from the drop that idea was abandoned and has only come intermittently since.
As good as they were last year, why on earth wouldn't you give them at least a few games' leash to start to gel again? Have we even seen them together consistently for more than like half a game? Seems like it could be a classic example of overcoaching...
That said, looks like we've got Holloway - Dvorsky - Kyrou to start tonight, so let's go. Hope they get more than the 1st period to get something going.

And Kyrou himself has definitely forgotten more about how to play hockey than you or I will ever know, so maybe we should all shut up about the whole thing?desertrat23 wrote: ↑14 Nov 2025 12:43 pmJim Montgomery knows more than we do about coaching in the NHL. He also forgets to try hard from game to game, period to period -- but I see your point.Ziggy3 wrote: ↑14 Nov 2025 12:51 pmAnd Kyrou himself has definitely forgotten more about how to play hockey than you or I will ever know, so maybe we should all shut up about the whole thing?desertrat23 wrote: ↑14 Nov 2025 12:43 pmJim Montgomery knows more than we do about coaching in the NHL. Re: Kyrou hurt?
I'll say one thing about the grinder fetishists, they are persistent.
I wonder if fans of other teams constantly complain about their scoring wingers? Like do Winnipeg fans say that Kyle Connor sucks because all he does is score and he never hits anyone, and he's soft and doesn't kill penalties or muck around in the corners?
Connor
630 career games - 602 pts (.95 /g) - 181 hits (.28/g)
Kyrou
432 career games - 341 pts (.79 /g) - 115 hits (.26 /g)
Kyrou will (barring injury) end up leading this team in goals scored, for the 4th frikin year in a row, and you meatheads are still going to complain and say we should trade him.

Re: Kyrou hurt?
My issue with Kyrou isn’t that he's not physical. My issue is that he doesn’t give a consistent all-out effort. And there’s no excuse for that.Rickster wrote: ↑14 Nov 2025 17:03 pm I'll say one thing about the grinder fetishists, they are persistent.

Anyone who doesn’t say Brian Sutter is wrong.Mr.Snuggleupagus wrote: ↑14 Nov 2025 18:03 pmWould you prefer a team of Brian Sutters or Jordan Kryous?
Re: Kyrou hurt?
Over four previous seasons, he's scored 131 goals, played 97 percent of games, has increased "hits" from 6 to 50 and increased blocked shots over that time.desertrat23 wrote: ↑14 Nov 2025 17:48 pm My issue with Kyrou isn’t that he's not physical. Is that not physical? How do you define "physical"?
Was Federko "physical"? Oates? ROR? Petro?

It's about effort, desire, and determination. He needs to look like he really wants to win....blues2112 wrote: ↑14 Nov 2025 18:19 pmOver four previous seasons, he's scored 131 goals, played 97 percent of games, has increased "hits" from 6 to 50 and increased blocked shots over that time.desertrat23 wrote: ↑14 Nov 2025 17:48 pm My issue with Kyrou isn’t that he's not physical. It's very contagious when you do.
It's even more contagious, when you do not.

It took no "effort, desire, and determination" off ice to improve those numbers?Harry York 37 wrote: ↑14 Nov 2025 18:37 pmIts about effort, desire, and determination. What does this mean? "He needs to look like he really wants to win"
Run-of-the-mill 35-goal scorers are hard to come by. His comps remind me of Joergen Pettersson.*

It means he needs to play hard every shift. He showed again tonight that when he’s motivated he’s a great player. But why does it take a benching or trade rumors to motivate him?blues2112 wrote: ↑14 Nov 2025 18:44 pmIt took no "effort, desire, and determination" off ice to improve those numbers?Harry York 37 wrote: ↑14 Nov 2025 18:37 pmIts about effort, desire, and determination. Re: Kyrou hurt?
Who wants Kyrou throwing hits? All we want is for him to hustle back after the puck when he loses it, like he did consistently tonight. He has tbe speed, skill, and vision to excel at the defensive side of the game without laying people out, if he just gives a consistent effort. He had what, 3 takeaways tonight? That's what I expect from him.Rickster wrote: ↑14 Nov 2025 17:03 pm I'll say one thing about the grinder fetishists, they are persistent.

Comparing Connor to Kyrou is rather silly.
