Not an Oli fan as I think they can do better.
But.... with every fiber of my being I hope he gets to manage the Cards in the 2026 playoffs!!!

Yea we’ve seen what he can do with a post season roster he goes deer in the headlights when something doesn’t go the paint by numbers way and continues watch dumbfounded As helsley implodesGoldfan wrote: ↑12 Nov 2025 21:03 pm Mike Claiborne says watching this year’s playoffs made him think about what Oliver Marmol could do with a postseason roster #STLCards
“I’m watching the baseball playoffs, and I’m saying to myself, ‘Man, I can’t wait to see Oli Marmol manage in the Postseason.’”
Isn’t Claibs a daily part of the KMOX radio broadcast??
I’m assuming he was around in ‘22 when Oli let an injured Helsley stay on the mound and lose a winnable playoff game against Phils
I’m assuming Claibs was watching this June with the team a game or 2 behind the Cubbies with back to back series and lil OLI aligns his rotation to throw ace Gray ONCE while having a god awful puke pair of Miles and Fedde pitching and losing FOUR of those games thus killing the Cards season the rest of the way
But Claibs wants to see what lil OLI can do in the playoffs…..![]()

There's an old saying, "given enough time anything is possible".Ronnie Dobbs wrote: ↑13 Nov 2025 10:50 amOkay??Goldfan wrote: ↑13 Nov 2025 10:37 amThis was a clip with him talking to Karracker……he was boasting how if Oli had some talent that he would be Robert’s like during a playoff run
Again, he had talent in ‘22 and froze like a puppy on ice. He was a game out this last June and let 2 of worst P in baseball start 4 games back to back Cubbies series……he’s a robotic idiot.
I'm not a big Oli fan, but he was also a rookie manager and you're judging him by one game. TLR had a major fiasco with his bullpen that probably lost us a huge game in the World Series. He's probably had a lot more mistakes that you could roast him for as well. He also managed for 35 years, so a lot of those things are forgotten. I know plenty of fans thought he was a choker after 2004. And it took him 11 years before a team he managed even made the playoffs.
So, yeah. I'm not going to overreact to a Cardinals employee saying something this so innocuous.

He already saw what Oli Marmol can do in the playoffs - choke like Elizabeth Taylor on a chicken bone!Goldfan wrote: ↑12 Nov 2025 21:03 pm Mike Claiborne says watching this year’s playoffs made him think about what Oliver Marmol could do with a postseason roster #STLCards

Tony LaRussa managed the White Sox to a 99-63 record in 1983 which was his 5th season as a MLB manager. They lost their first playoff series 3-1.Ronnie Dobbs wrote: ↑13 Nov 2025 10:50 amOkay??Goldfan wrote: ↑13 Nov 2025 10:37 amThis was a clip with him talking to Karracker……he was boasting how if Oli had some talent that he would be Robert’s like during a playoff run

So no, it didn’t take him 11 years to make the playoffs.
However, I am one who thinks LaRussa could/should have won 1-2 more WS than he did considering the talent he had.
Nevertheless he won 3 WS and Marmol should never be compared to him.
Re: Mike Claiborne…..Marmol genius manager
Marmol will have a different team this year, if he gets them around 500, maybe I will think differently.

And we SAW what Oli would do in the playoffs, he froze like a deer in the headlights while his closer melted down.
It's a disgrace that he's in the KMOX booth.

Okay, so he made the playoffs 1 time in 11 years and won 1 game.Bomber1 wrote: ↑13 Nov 2025 17:54 pmTony LaRussa managed the White Sox to a 99-63 record in 1983 which was his 5th season as a MLB manager. They lost their first playoff series 3-1.

My point in comparing them is not that Oli is as good as Tony was, or not even close. My point is that some of these legendary managers were not automatically great in their first few years. And lots of them have made some serious mistakes in huge positions that people now have kind of blocked out because they either ended up winning a series or just the fact that they have already been established for years and people are more willing to overlook it.
Like I said, I'm no fan of Oli. I don't think he's as bad as a lot of people, especially around here, like to say. I think he's pretty mediocre. And yea, he completely flopped in one playoff game in 2022. I was extremely (upset) at him at the time. Of course it didn't helpnthat the team scored 3 runs in the 2 games that series.
But these things will happen over any manager's career.

Bob Hyland would've never okayed him being anywhere near the booth.

What's interesting is Matheny was 5-4 in playoff series inheriting a team that lost HOF 1B Pujols. Marmol and Shildt are a combined 1-5. Marmol remains employed and Shildt quit.
