Questions regarding Northweather

Post by Shady »

I like his agility for 6'11". And his shooting touch. He's alert on defense. Any chance he can score posting up or off the dribble?

Not sure that’s his game right now. To score in the post you have to force the action and he almost never forces a shot. He’s pretty passive shooting the ball. Maybe if he gets comfortable with his status he might be a little more assertive. In high school he made shots from all over the court, so he does have the ability.

It will take time but he has a ton of hustle. Let's see how he progresses throughout this season.

My point, I hope he becomes more than just a spot up shooter as a scorer, offensively. Especially, to be able to take to ball to the hole effectively, occasionally. By the way, I've been pleasantly surprised by Norweather's athleticism at 6'11".

I hope so too. Probably more mental for him. He was like this at OU too only worse. Extremely passive. At least now he’s working hard to do all the little things that help us and occasionally shoot a 3. If he’d TRY to score more, he’d probably help us a lot more.

Thing is, Porter is passive too, but IMO he’s also very soft. Northweather isn’t soft, he’ll get in there and bang around on D and rebounding. He’s not super strong but not as weak as Porter.

I hope Gates' staff has some "take the ball to the hole" drills for Northweather. He needs to be able the fake the shot and make a move, at times.

The good news is that Mizzou fans have decided to support Northweather and Porter as they adjust to their new teammates and Gates' coaching style and demands.

It's much more effective than trying to impress the vocal minority like the "look at me" crowd is wont to do.

I don't think that's his game. Minn left him alone under the basket a few times and we got the ball to him down low but he always kicked the ball out. His value seems to be the three ball, defense, and rebounding. I think he'll be a big part of the team moving forward.

MU needs a guy like Northweather and I'm sure Gates saw it.

Not particularly flashy or noticeable but does a lot of things well. He can defend, rebound, scrap, get you a basket, shoot the three and make FTs.

I can live with that 20plus minutes a game.

have several guys who will use the pre conference games to define their role and fight for PT. He is doing more than expected at this point but several guys are figuring things out. Phillips despite impressive stats on jumping hasn't really impressed so far.

TO and Mack have shown good ability to attack the rim and finish. Ant is playing well especially with trey. lots of time to settle into roles and how many will be playing nightly.
