Cards will need to sweeten the deal trading Nado. Perhaps a prospect and paying part of his salary. Phillies ,Red Sox and maybe the Mariners seem to be the most likely.
Currently the 3 teams along with Mets I would pick for Bregman Suarez and Murakami. Those 3 teams want offense upgrades. Then Bohm is moved somewhere like Tigers.

N/A is highly likely to end up in Arizona.
I disagreed with you at first, but I'm coming around.
Why AZ? They are in a rebuild like the Cardinals. Sitting Lawler would be idiotic. He’s not going back to AAA
Yeah, I'm not seeing that happening.
No one should want Nado.
Wet few openings because of top prospects and 3 elite FA and maybe 4 if Bichette is willing to move to 3B as reported today. 3B has a log jam. Going to make it hard if he thinks he’s a starter

Arizona doesn't think they are in a rebuild. And, if he hasn't improved, Lawler is absolutely going back to AAA. His time in the bigs has been awful. He has "Walker'd" up the place so far. Arizona's front office has said they are prioritizing infield defense (upgrading over Suarez and Naylor). They need to add pitching and that has their payroll squeezed a bit. Arenado seems to fit the things they want to do.
-16 Nolan Arenado ($34M/2yr) to Arizona.
Cards clear out 3B for someone else.
Dbacks get a 3B for now and keep Lawlar for later.
-14.4 Eduardo Rodriguez ($46M/2yr or $57M/3yr) to St Louis.
Cards add an innings eating starter in exchange for Arenado's salary + $12M.
Dbacks save $12M even after paying Arenado to fill their 3B hole.
+20.8 Alec Burleson to Arizona
Cards trade high on a LH bat
Dbacks fill their LF hole cheap so they can spend on pitching.
+15.8 Ryan Waldschmidt to St Louis
Cards add to their pool of prospects ready to Bloom in 2027... and he doesn't take a 40-man spot this winter.
Dbacks try to win now with Carrol, Perdomo, Marte, Moreno
Blockbuster! Arizona goes for it! Cardinals unload salaries. No, I'm not serious; this is just for fun.
-10 Sonny Gray ($40M/1yr or $65M/2yr) to Arizona. Gray becomes DBacks best pitcher.
-16 Nolan Arenado ($34M/2yr) to Arizona. Arenado fills 3B hole until Lawlar is ready.
-24 Willson Contreras ($41.5M/2yr) to Arizona. Contreras becomes 1B/DH.
+20 Alec Burleson (arb/3yr) to Arizona. Burleson becomes LF/DH.
Cards send $35M to Arizona making this package $5M in positive value.
Payroll Impact: DBacks add $45M in 2026 payroll but trade away $39M in 2026 payroll --- net add of $6M
-14 Eduardo Rodriguez ($46M/2yr or $57M/3yr) to St Louis. Cards need innings eater in 2026-27.
+3??? Lourdes Gurriel ($18M/1yr or $27M/2yr) to St Louis. Salary dump. Gurreil will miss 1st half of 2026 with ACL injury; returns as a Cards DH/LF.
+16 Ryan Waldschmidt to St Louis. Cards add a RH OF bat to 2027 debut prospect pool
Payroll Impact: Cards add $39M in 2026 payroll but trade away $45M in 2026 payroll. Move Donovan to 3B, Wetherholt to 2B. Gorman to 1B.
Payroll Impact: Cards add $25M in 2027 payroll but trade away $38.5M in 2027 payroll.

The Mariners are the best fit for the Cardinals. They won't be in on signing Alex Bregman, so they could make a move sooner than later. The Phillies and Red Sox will try to sign Bregman and could wait nearly until spring training to find out what he will do.
Not sure he’d accept trade to grey skies Seattle. He already blocked a trade to Houston.
