Say Hello to Doug Armstrong

Post by opti mist »

From the Athletic:

“I certainly respect and read and understand the angst of the fans,” Armstrong said. “But our goal is to do what’s best for (Mailloux) and the organization, and while there could be support for him to go down and play well, there could be negativity. But you can’t really make your decisions based on public perception. I think this is best for him and the Blues and that’s why we’re doing it.”

What a difference 4 months can make...

Armstrong:

July 1, 2025
We have a strong team. We almost advanced to Round 2. The re-whatever is over because we are back in the playoffs. Mailloux will be given every chance to earn a spot on this juggernaut team. We really think that he can do it.

Nov 9, 2025.
The team is nearly the worst in the league. Springfield is doing worse. Mailloux's head can't even stand even with the mediocre talent that we have on this team, so we are sending him down to Springfield. Don't know for what.

I dont think its that big of an issue. He dominated the AHL he has some game he needs to find confidence and adjust to the pace of the NHL esp in the D zone. The Blues can get LM into AHL games and coach him directly.

Again i think if the team was better, the bottom of the d pairs especially then they could carry LM and get him games now but they went Tucker, Kessel, Mailloux, Skinner that was another route to go, hopeful in my view

Army, Top 10 in wins all time as a GM. Top 5 in Win percentage amongst the 50 most winning GMs. Brought the Blues a Stanley Cup. Blues are top 5 in the west in wins since Army has been GM. Last 10 years third in the west, 7th overall in wins.

Man this guy is so bad at his job!

Please stop trying to justify now by reciting his career accomplishments. Now is what’s matters the game passes people by. Accept it.

What part is only career accomplishments? Last 10 years not a sufficient enough timeframe for you? How old are you? How long have you been watching the Blues? Track records are pretty indicative of future results. Much more reliable than feelings.

Last 5 years the Blues are 15th in the league and 8th in the west. That's "playoff hockey" over a 5 year span. A lot of fan bases will take that every day of the week.

I’m an Army fan, but everyone loses some zip off their fastball sooner or later.

And he’s been fired before. Shocking hey

Had a cup team and made terrible moves … gave terrible contracts and now the organization is floundering

Which is why he's stepping down at the end of the year.

But he's absolutely earned the right to go out on his own terms.

hypocrites will be hypocrites. There are only a couple GM's that can say they are doing better than Army. Obviously the gold standard being Zito.

2 years ago he publicly stated he hasn’t improved the organization and stated he knows he could be fired. How about now?

He gave Faulk, Buchnevich, Kyrou and Krug well over 200 million dollars lol
