Ok don’t shoot me. I see he is wxpected to get a one year deal for $5 million. I would keep the door open. I’m not convinced we have enough arms. He might could fill a role.

However I would be surprised if he would want a deal with Cards. He is looking for the chance to reprove himself. Role with Cardinals would be spot position. Fitting into rotation at times, bull pen role at other times. If he does ok trade at deadline possibly.

I agree, mostly, though I would offer him less money.

Tell MM he is starting the season in the bullpen, but will be treated as a swingman.

I seriously doubt though that MM is looking for a chance to reprove himself. He probably has the most starts in mlb the last 3 years.

But…he might be interested in proving himself as a reliever (see Cal Eldred). And like you said, possibly flip him at the deadline.

Resigning Mikolas actually isn't the worst idea in the world. Here's my point. They are not going to sign three difference maker arms, two they desperately need isn't going to happen either. So, if the price is right, offer him a one year, with an option for two, he does provide innings. He is your 4/5 guy, he is not the problem in the rotation pitching from there. Expecting him to match up against other teams top guys was the problem. I said it before, and I will mention it again. You need to understand the guys you have on your roster, what they are capable of, and then put them in the best position to succeed. THAT is the biggest thing that is not happening with this team. It is the very reason guys flourish under great managers, and then fall off the cliff on another roster, and visa versa. Mikolas could be very usefull if utilised properly. Reup him a season of two, let him retire a Cardinal, then debate if he is red jacket material. The dude has won almost 70 games as a Cardinal.

Now, on the flipside, if they want to seriously sink some money into the rotation like they should, then all gets are off. But that ain't going to happen.

Better pitchers than Mikolas didn't retire Cardinals. And I know the red jacket is a fan thing, but if anybody DIDN'T deserve it, it's Mikolas.

Also, Miles problem wasn't that he was expected to go up against guy like Skenes, Skubal, etc. He wasn't keeping pace with the middle rotation guys, either, and had to dog paddle to keep up with other BOTR guys. His rotten numbers back that up.

No matter what, the team will probably sign two vet starters to one year deals.

You can let, for example, Jordan Walker flounder. You can’t really do that with pitching staffs.

Yep. We will almost certainly have a #5/#6 who is no better than Miles, but he has become radioactive in STL.
