When opportunities like this pop up you have to react and not wait for it to fit into your plans. Top international players don’t just come along all the time.BrockFloodMaris wrote: ↑07 Nov 2025 20:11 pmBlooms priorities for the 2026 MLB roster don’t include spending a bunch of money on the infield. All 30 MLB teams have 45 days to negotiate with him.
25 yr. Old slugger was 2022 mvp and Japan wbc champions in 2023.
He is power bat though he is left handed ..last 8 years had 246 HR and .851 ops
Nice size 6-2 213
Imagine signing him for 3rd base( he plays 1st also..
Trade Gorman or Contreras ). .
With the $$$ saved on Nado, Gray, Contrereas put that savings for a young power bat. Cards could sure use one.
Think we know who the big bidders will likely be.
Nice dream though . Bloom could sure make Cardinal fanbase excited with that one move.
If he makes us better then that’s what rebuilding is supposed to mean - actually building a better roster. Only this way would be like buying a top and nearly ready prospect without even having to trade someone. And Wed Have control for at least 6 years which includes the competitive window.

He’s something like an 80 re power but his swing and miss rate is already 30% in Japan. That won’t go down in the majors.
I see him as more risk with less upside than some of the other Japanese guys. Pitching might be a better pursuit with Japan guys this year.
Then again, with all of the int’l FA’s, a wallet will need to open. The reality of the game today.
Personally, I think the Cards are waiting to see if a cap gets agreed upon before making any long term commitments. And let’s face it, they are more than one player away.

You’ve sold me, but I can’t see BDW spending like that just before a potential work stoppage (revenue stoppage).Carp4Cy wrote: ↑08 Nov 2025 02:54 amWhen opportunities like this pop up you have to react and not wait for it to fit into your plans. Definitely seems like a guy where you would want to be very certain of your evaluation if you think his skills are going to translate to MLB.An Old Friend wrote: ↑07 Nov 2025 18:28 pm I wouldn’t get in on the bidding. Yet another OP pipe dream.
In what universe do you see this ownership group bidding in earnest here?

NOT my position but it's pretty clear if/when NADO is traded, then Norman is going to be at 3rd base.
That probability gets even greater if Donny is traded.
Can this guy play in the OF?

Why would his massive strikeout numbers not give you any pause to anoint him a generational star?

Nobody would choose to live in Missouri vs Los Angeles. Endorsements can be had regardless of location these days.

fyi
His contact rate tanks against fastballs 93 mph and above (just 63% since 2022) and, more recently, Murakami's contact rates versus secondary pitches have also plummeted. In 2025, Murakami had just a 51% contact rate against all secondary pitch types combined, much lower than any consistent, impact big league hitter. Contrast that with 2022-2023 Murakami, when his contact rate was 62% — not great, but better than 2025 by a meaningful margin.

This franchise is irrationally paranoid about this works stoppage. Players aren’t gonna get paid during a work stoppage and I don’t think they’ll even accrue service time. Meanwhile, when it ends, and it will end, the teams that didn’t do nothing are going to have a big Headstart over the teams that have absolutely nobody on the roster to begin with. It’s like we’re forcing ourselves to waste another year or two in this rebuild process, needlessly and missing potentially once in a decade opportunities on players that we might need.BrockFloodMaris wrote: ↑08 Nov 2025 07:32 amYou’ve sold me, but I can’t see BDW spending like that just before a potential work stoppage (revenue stoppage).Carp4Cy wrote: ↑08 Nov 2025 02:54 amWhen opportunities like this pop up you have to react and not wait for it to fit into your plans. I’m saying other stars in that league have transitioned very well to become a stars in the major league and even increased their production after moving here.An Old Friend wrote: ↑08 Nov 2025 08:44 amSo you’re suggesting he’s going to be like them just because he’s from the same area of the world?Carp4Cy wrote: ↑08 Nov 2025 02:51 amOhtani sure didn’t live up to the hype did he? He’s not facing college or minor league pitching so don’t handicap his production and assume there’ll be a huge drop off. We should scout him like we would anybody else and offer accordingly. Maybe we don’t win the bid but we need to be interested in not wright off Opportunities.
Meanwhile, you’ll find naysayers on this board regarding every single potential trade or free agent signing or prospect. We can’t become victims to fear, or we will never find the opportunities to make this club better. at some point you have to take a risk, it just needs to be a smart one.

Source for what? That BDW is paranoid over the work stoppage? That's crowdsourced from this board because I hear it daily that he's not willing to make moves until after the CBA.ecleme22 wrote: ↑08 Nov 2025 13:02 pmSource?Carp4Cy wrote: ↑08 Nov 2025 12:51 pmThis franchise is irrationally paranoid about this works stoppage. I work in finance and deal with uncertainly on a daily basis. And I see irrational fear sometimes paralyze businesses into doing nothing - and they end up missing out on opportunities that they could have taken advantage of even by projecting high case/mid case/ worst case plausible scenarios and at least investing in the opportunities that still made sense under the worst scenario (there always are some, just not as many).
