Time for Drinkwitz to step up
This is it. Missouri vs. Tesxas A&M, heretofore an also-ran in the SEC. Where is the signature win for Drink? It doesn't exist.
He has the defense this year to get that win. Will he let the offense breathe enough to get that signature win? We shall see.
If the Aggies stack the box and stuff the run, will he allow Zollers to actually throw the ball downfield?
Low expectations are for losers. It is high time the bar is raised.

Re: Time for Drinkwitz to step up
We say the same thing everytime we play one of these massive games, and the result in the entirety of drinks career have not only been losses, we usually look like horse [shirt]. The two losses this year were huge games, and they were at least one possession games. Play calling has been steadily heading down the [shirt]er since the start of 2024. Guess we'll find out tomorrow, don't get your hopes up
Re: Time for Drinkwitz to step up
Well if AM stacks the box you still beat them with the run. You still get your 3,4 or 5 yards. They have to to win this game imo.
And Missouri has the horses to do this if given the chance.

Re: Time for Drinkwitz to step up
you can't argue with the OP as whenever Tiger fans get jacked up thinking THIS TIME IS IT when they play a Big brand and so far nothing but losses. Closer one score ones this year but still losses.
would love to see Kirby actually watch some tape and be prepared for what will come but his history is he won't attack their weaknesses or take advantage of his assets. LOVE to be wrong but he has been total disappointment.
few in CFB give MU any respect but you want to get that? BEAT SOMEONE!

Re: Time for Drinkwitz to step up
I’m not sure about Drink’s reputation for never winning the “big one” or struggling against ranked teams.
He hasn’t been great. But in ‘23 we beat K State, TN, Kentucky when they were ranked and obviously the win over Ohio State in the bowl game that would have been a playoff win had it been a year later. Then we barely lost to really good LSU and Georgia teams which were our only losses.
Last year we obviously were no shows vs A&M and Bama. 2 of the most disappointing efforts I’ve seen from Mizzou in the Drink era. And lost an absolute heartbreaker vs SC. But we did beat a good BC team when they were ranked and several other wins were solid, just not “ranked” wins.
This year we’ve really only played 2 top teams and both were extremely close losses that we could have won. Although I still think the win at Auburn was a great win. Their record belies the talent on that team and that’s a really tough place to win.
Does Drink need to win more of these games to reach elite status? Absolutely. Has he completely laid an egg in “big” games? Not at all. Tomorrow would be huge though.

We haven't been looking good on O for a while. We're down to our Frosh 3rd string QB (although he looked good vs Vandy & was a highly rated recruit). We are hosting #3 aTm who took apart LSU under the lights in The Swamp. aTm is favored by a TD. Now that I've gotten your hopes up, I don't think aTm is the greatest team ever & can be beaten. We'll have to play a clean game & not make stupid errors, but we can do it. A break or two wouldn't hurt. I think after the Vandy "breaks" we deserve a couple.

Thankfully, the majority of Mizzou fans who read these posts understand the bar is that high, so he can CONSTANTLY remind and stir up the vocal minority that it hasn't been reached.

Marv I agree. A&M almost lost to ND and then almost a bad loss to Arkansas where they gave up 42 points.MizzouMarv wrote: ↑07 Nov 2025 09:15 am We haven't been looking good on O for a while. Don’t get me wrong, A&M is really talented, especially on offense. But they’re a few breaks away from being 6-2 with worse losses than our 2. There is no reason why we can’t win especially at home, except the X factor is our freshman QB. He’s having a lot thrown at him and we’ll just have to hope he’s up to the challenge. He looks good, I think he’s going to rise to the occasion.

Tigers win this game.
Re: Time for Drinkwitz to step up
I think that's a given, they will bring up the safeties and clog the box, take away the run and the short passes and put pressure on the freshman QB.
The way to beat that is of course play action and go over the top, Mizzou has the WRs to put the DBs on their heals especially Johnson.
They have got to go deep several times, even if doesn't work consistency, remind the DBs Mizzou has the speed to get deep.

One, if Missouri can't run on them, stacked or not, they are dead meat, like LSU last week.
Two, Missouri can run on them, well enough, stacked or not.
It is then that the young qb can breath and perform and make his passes.
But so far Mr Moore has not agreed with that strategy and has abandoned the run game with Hardy and Roberts, two of the best in the business.

Re: Time for Drinkwitz to step up
This season gets VERY interesting if Mizzou wins tomorrow.
This would be a massive win for Drink and the program as a whole.
M-I-Z!

The bar needs to be this high. Winning the SEC and being in the CFP should be the minimum expectation. Nobody should accept going to the Liberty Bowl a success. Is the 10th highest paid coach in football so we need to have the eyes set on top 10 or higher.
Tomorrows game now determines if 2025 is a success or failure.

Absolutely no stupid dead ball fouls, late hits, taunting, targeting, etc. We cannot afford even one, and those have sunk us more than once this year.

I agree, what’s happened in the last few games is we can’t run through a wall. As Pribula regressed throwing the ball the defenses stacked the box and we didn’t go over it.Flyboy65 wrote: ↑07 Nov 2025 16:42 pmI think that's a given, they will bring up the safeties and clog the box, take away the run and the short passes and put pressure on the freshman QB.

What I saw in limited action is Zollers has the ability to go downfield accurately. That could be a complete game changer for our run game if we can do that in the 1st 2 or 3 possessions.
We have to run the ball ultimately, but it starts with Zollers. Unless A&M decides to play it more straight up seeing what Zollers can do out of the gate. Intriguing 1st quarter coming up.
