Harrison Bader opts out
Turned down $10 mill for free agency. What do you think?
I think it was a dumb move on his part.

Re: Harrison Bader opts out
I think it’s smart given there is some buzz around him for the first time in a bit.

Re: Harrison Bader opts out
He will get more financial security by opting out. I'm certain he will get more than one year. Since he left STL he has played for the Yankees, Mets, Twins, and Phillies. He might appreciate not moving around all the time.
Re: Harrison Bader opts out
Also, this could be the last opportunity for him to get anything close to a big contract. Maybe his last opportunity to get a multi year contract.Talkin' Baseball wrote: ↑07 Nov 2025 09:59 am He will get more financial security by opting out. I'm certain he will get more than one year. Re: Harrison Bader opts out
Coming off a 3.2 fWAR season, he'll get at least a 1 yr./$10 million offer anyway. So there is no downside (except maybe not being back with the Phillies) to turning it down.
Re: Harrison Bader opts out
Crazy how the cards badly need OFers who can play defense and hit a bit, but all the options out there aren’t utopian levels of perfection and cost for one reason or another so we will continue to do without and not improve.
Re: Harrison Bader opts out
Agree with you. He can get a 2 year deal. Second year May have option.. and even if declined will get a good buyout so at worst he would make more than the$10M for even one year.
Don’t think it was dumb at all. He will make at least a couple million more.. $2 million is my guess.
Heck Yankees paid $12.5 M for Goldy and he was backup for them.
Re: Harrison Bader opts out
You are spot on, eleme ! Bader will be 32 years old in June. Probably his last time to get a multi- year deal (even if for 2 years ) .ecleme22 wrote: ↑07 Nov 2025 10:09 amAlso, this could be the last opportunity for him to get anything close to a big contract. At this point in his career , it's time to get what he can as he winds down his final years.

Once a moron, always a moron
Who's going to give him a $10M AAV?
If he gets a multi year (and I'd bet it won't be more than two) deal, then he's looking at $15M/2 yrs.

Well ... maybe he cut his hair and all his mental acuity was left on the floor.
Re: Harrison Bader opts out
sure would take him in CF over V Scott II
Re: Harrison Bader opts out
He will get more years and more money.
Re: Harrison Bader opts out
I think players, especially ones that are in Bader's category (veteran, year-to-year free agents), tend to prioritize finding the most years they can get.
