Only if the line gives him the protection. He will throw the deep ball if the line is blocking

And he throws a nice ball. Our pass protection hadn’t seemed that great all year, but it makes you wonder if that’s just an advantage Zollers has over Pribula. Maybe Pribula just doesn’t have the footwork and the patience / vision that Zollers has. If that’s the case Zollers has a BRIGHT future.

I wish Zollers had an easier next game to help get his footing, but it’s A&M and that’s life in the SEC. It’s also a great opportunity. Hope he’s able to get it done.
Ok, here's the deal:

-BP was running for his life on virtually every pass play for at least the last three games. I think the pass protection "hadn't seemed that great" is a significant understatement.
-Zollers looked good considering the circumstances (thrown into the action for the first time as a freshman). But, I don't quite understand those who are declaring him to be vastly better than BP, based on one half of playing time. I think he will be good in time, but I would be amazed if he doesn't struggle a lot over the next four games.

There you have it.

I think it’s a couple things. Everyone is hoping he’ll be a stud because that would make us a contender. The offense was becoming stagnant in the last several games and there was no threat downfield from Pribula. There are no guarantees Zollers will instantly turn that around and it’s highly unlikely he’ll lightl up A&M or even play well. They’re really good and he’s a true freshman.

But he did look very good when he came in vs Vandy and did look better than Pribula. We just don’t have any choice but to wait and see if he really is better. I hope everyone doesn’t throw the towel in on Zollers if he struggles Saturday because that wouldn’t be fair.

If by some chance MU catches lightening in a bottle with Zollers and goes 10-2 with the national media playing him up I guarantee you a playoff spot.

Miami should be nowhere near a playoff spot and others ahead of MU in the rankings will cannibalize themselves the next 4 weeks.

Agree. I would be delighted with a big, fat W over A&M, whether it's elegant or ugly.

Wonder how/if they will change the play calling any with Zollers at QB. I hope Zollers airs it out more than Pribula did.

Drink said they wouldn’t be adding a bunch of plays or anything BUT he alluded to Zollers’ arm strength and playing to his strengths. That tells me the plan is to throw the ball. My guess is we’ll still emphasize the run but it’ll maybe be more balanced. Which is great .

Pribula would leave the pocket at the drop of a hat, never stepped up, and often times held the ball too long. It’s hard to block for a guy when you never know where he’s going to be. Also, deep balls tend to be 50/50 plays and you don’t set school records for consecutive completions by throwing 50/50 balls. Simple fly/go patterns really don’t need much time. A lot of QB’s struggle with wanting the receiver to get open BEFORE they throw and with the shrinking definition of open as the level of competition increases. My concern with Zollers is the fact in his mop up playing time, all he was allowed to do was hand off and throw very limited dump passes.

Armchair QB wrote: 01 Nov 2025 14:45 pm So here’s a thought. Zollers ignites the offense, the defense plays lights out down the stretch. We win the remaining games in impressive fashion.

Do we get special consideration for the playoffs vs other 10-2 teams including potentially Vandy and Bama because we obviously turned a corner with a new QB and are a different team?

Lots of water under the bridge before that can happen, but that would be swell.
Mizzou running the table and going 10-2 means wins over a #3-ranked Texas A&M and a top-ranked Oklahoma team. That alone should be enough to get them in the TOP 12 at season's end.

Pribula has been a failure, TBH. And I had high hopes for him after the KU game in which he stood in there and delivered dimes under pressure into tight coverage. What happened to make him so skittish and scatter-armed since?

His need/ability to improvise was his blessing and curse at Penn St. it’s why he found himself the odd man out. He could not be trusted to run the offense. I wonder what might have been had Drink not decided to settle his QB situation by sending Horn on a suicide mission?
