As the last line stated , 'there is no team more open for business ' . I had stated after Bloom's takeover that he would 'clean house' this offseason.
I look for a lot of wheelin dealin . I know some think I may be too optimistic OR are taking the 'I'll believe it when I see it ' stance . That's fine too. Just think that Bloom is going to jump into the pool with both feet regarding the rebuild.

-With Mo's departure Bloom has (the second most) control behind BDWJr

-He also has plenty of time w/a five year contract

-But money from Dewitt will NOT be coming until we have some clarification on the new CBA

-Sadly (IMO) Dewitt will force Oli on him for 2026 knowing it's another "throwaway season".

Bloom's minor league player development system has now been in place since he began instituting it in 2024.

The drafts already are showing his influence (re: power pitching).

This Winter he'll start culling the dead-wood that this team has been carrying, DFAing the players who are J.A.G.

He'll also look to deal the NTC players (NADO, Gray & Willy) IF THEY asked to be dealt.

Finally he's going to make trades both this winter & in 2026 using assets (Donovan and Noot) to bring back either young major league players w/control or quality prospects.

We'll likely also see minor moves dealing secondary players (Pages, Pozo, Pallante types) as well as some minor leaguers for "lotto" ticket prospects.

He may want a full year of control evaluating Gorman & Walker before moving on from them since they're not making big money.

BIG JOB ahead of him, I wish him the best of luck fixing this mess BDWJr/Mo have handed him.

My question is, what are the Cubs waiting for? If there were ever a time to spend money and put a stranglehold on the division, it’s now. How many HRs would Pete Alonso hit playing at Wrigley? Bring Schwarber home. Sign Cease. Hit the gas.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Cubs take a couple big swings this offseason.

Cubs ownership basically sold out their flexibility to get private equity investment. They’re now focused on bottom line profitability more than ever. I don’t think anyone expects them to make meaningful payroll moves in front of the looming CBA battle royale

Ahh, ok that makes sense. There is so much smoke about a pending lockout that one has to think the fire is most certainly blazing right behind the door. Hope they get it figured out. I'll always come right back once the dust settles, but at what point do entire segments of fan bases start to tune out and stop paying attention altogether? A spring/summer without MLB would be a sizable blow to everyone involved.

Read yesterday that as many as 20 teams would inquire about Donovan. His salary for the next two years prior to free agency is a good deal. His age of 29 is ideal too. Quite versatile who can be moved if injuries to other starters adds value too.
What Bloom wishes in return will dictate how serious teams get in bidding for him. Bloom realizes he has one of the better trade chips.
The 2-year control of a player making All Star team is quite attractive to other teams.
