If Drinkwitz would leave ??

Post by stanw »

So if Drinkwitz would leave to take the LSU or Florida job, what do you think Mizzou would do ? Go after a big name coach // promote someone on staff // or look to find the next Drinkwitz at a lesser school, and hope things turn out as good like when he was hired.

I have no idea what they would do but I’m not a big fan of recycled coaches.

I agree. I think you have to be careful chasing names (ie Hugh Freeze types) just because they’ve coached at a high level. Make fact based decisions and try to hire the up and coming coach with a proven track record IMHO. Unless Nick Saban or Urban Meyer are interested.

But ultimately it also has to be the right fit. Look at James Madison. Mike Houston was awesome there for 3 years, left, and then fizzled out. Curt Cignetti follows him, did great as well at James Madison. Leaves and goes to Indiana and has lit the world on fire for 2 years.

It’s a bit of lightning in a bottle and luck.

With the high number of high profile, high pay jobs, I believe there will be a bidding war for Curt Cignetti at Indiana. Hoosiers have a good shot to go 12-0 (before bowls/playoffs). That 23-2 over the last 2 seasons.

Cignetti just signed a huge extension at Indiana. He's not leaving.

Afternoon guys on 101 were talking yesterday.....one was saying if Missouri AD doesn't act on Drink in 2 weeks time it's an indication they will not be offering an extension and Drink would likely be recruited successfully. That's how I took it anyway.

No mention of Drink having said "no negotiations" during the season.

Lots of air fill time conversations going on.

It takes two to tango. There is no possible way Mizzou isn’t offering drink an extension. The hold up would be whether drink wants to sign it

The only way Drinkwitz would leave is because of lack of support.

That hasn't happened and won't happen anytime soon.

Obviously his biggest attribute is selling the University and his program to recruits and transfers.

He's also been instrumental in hundreds of millions of dollars in upgrades in stadium and football facilities.

Money would not be the driving force.

After several years here he finally has what very well could be a program changing QB and despite what might seem like inherent advantages going to LSU or Florida for examples doesn't make a lot of sense.
