That's the funny thing about baseball. The 2004 and 2005 teams rank among the best Cardinals teams ever. But they produced one pennant and no championship. The 2006 club was trending down, but things went right and that era got it's title. Let's get back there. On this date in 1979, Keith Hernandez was named National League co-MVP alongside Willie Stargell. In his 2018 biography, Hernandez wrote that he deserved the award outright over Stargell.
