Coaching
I admit my lack of hockey knowledge up front. Raised in south so limited background but I love watching the game.
Most of the criticism I see on here is directly pointed at players. What are the thoughts on coaching? In the past coaching changes have been made by the Blues. It appears to spark the team. Should changes be made?

Re: Coaching
No. They just went and got their man Monty mid last season and extended him. Besides, with Thomas and Neighbours out a coaching change isn't going to accomplish much in the extreme best case.Jatalk wrote: ↑03 Nov 2025 09:04 am I admit my lack of hockey knowledge up front. Re: Coaching
Agree with your statement but some of the shine is wearing off of Monty. It is surprising (disappointing?) to see a Monty team look this unfocused. Was expecting his system to be humming this year. I’m still a huge Monty supporter but am waiting for him to work his magic soonDawgDad wrote: ↑03 Nov 2025 09:12 amNo. They just went and got their man Monty mid last season and extended him. Re: Coaching
It's not a coaching issue right now - they just need to get healthy and then we can make a fair assessment.

Re: Coaching
This is not a coaching issue as of today. This group isn't built to just pummel teams into the ground. They are a fringe playoff team who was hoping to be more of a lock but clearly didn't make that step yet. But fringe playoff teams that require a total team effort like the Blues do can't have this level of goalie play.
Get more goalie outings like Saturday and wins will start to come. Hard to play every game when one of your goalies was letting in the first shot. But, they have to figure out how to win a couple of these. The Red Wings game and the Canucks game needed to be wins. Even if your goalie turns into a sieve in the Red Wings game you have to be able to score a goal when up 4 instead of giving up 6 in a row. Same goes for Saturday. You got your good goalie start.

I just don’t like Montgomery. Maybe it’s his past … but he just doesn’t come across as a likable/trustworthy guy.

You are not barking high enough on the tree.
We have changed coaches like baby diapers lately. The problem is ABOVE the coach. Armstrong needs to go. The team is in horrendous shape, and it will take YEARS to get back to respectability, much less contend for the cup.

There is a litany of things that have upset the apple cart. I thought they had put the opening night face plant behind them winning a couple of early games on the road but then there was:Phil Roberto fan wrote: ↑03 Nov 2025 09:25 amAgree with your statement but some of the shine is wearing off of Monty. 1. The Hofer thing
2. Mailloux/Tucker leaking like a sieve
3. Big guns not firing, leading to a mad scramble of line changes
4. More defensive breakdowns
5. Key injuries
The only one where Monty may have flamed the fires was all the line and pairing changes. In fairness, from his perspective, he needed to cover for the 3rd pairing guys and he was looking for pairings that would click.
Once Thomas and Neighbours went down, objectively, the team was climbing Mt. Everest. With Thomas back they should be able to right the ship and start bailing water.
Re: Coaching
Yes it's coaching. Keeping short.
From needing a dog house to Kyrou on a line with Sunny. From over reliance on past there prime vets. To the erratic (bleep) and benching of rookies.
But it starts at the top.
Not only has he fostered an un- trustworthy environment, But he looks for other teams problems, for the loyalty they give him.
Both him and his coach build and play the team around players that they are friendly with, instead who has earned it.

Re: Coaching
Great points - it’s just my opinion that no one gets off Scott-free regarding this awful start. That being said, RT is back tonight so hoping the boys get some good energy from that. I’ve got way too much 2019 and March - June 2025 in my head to give up on this team after a bad start. Jim Montgomery just inked a 5 year deal less than a year ago. He ain't going anywhere.Jatalk wrote: ↑03 Nov 2025 09:04 am I admit my lack of hockey knowledge up front. Raised in south so limited background but I love watching the game.
