Kiss the TOP5 draft pick goodbye
Here we go again. Army is bring in veteran players to "stay competitive". Forget about the prospects in the organization. Army drafts the best, but just don't expect his players to ever play. They aren't good enough.
BluesTalkers often ask me, "How would you get a TOP5 pick without tanking?"
Answer: Don't bring in Rosen. Play the prospects, and sink or swim. If Army is so great at drafting, WHERE ARE THE PROSPECTS NOW?
This move means that more will follow. We have March TV dates on National TV that have to mean something.
Welcome to mediocre hockey, Blues Fans. No TOP5 pick again this year.
St Louis Blues... The only roster in NHL history that actually got OLDER following a re-whatever. Disgusting.

Calle Rosen is the needle mover for a Top 5 pick? I mean he does apparently have the ability to defy physics and cause opposing players to fling themselves into goalies, but that's his only super power that I know of...

Re: Kiss the TOP5 draft pick goodbye
In light of you playing it cool for a day or two there, I'll give you one straightforward reply.
My honest reaction is to not take the acquisition of a depth AHL defenseman as anything significant about whether Armstrong intends to sell or buy or stand pat over the next few months.
I know, however, that "all events prove your theory." And since this was an event, it proves your theory. But it's actually one of the times that doing this makes your logic transparent. It's ludicrous to suggest that adding Calle Rosen to your struggling AHL team is proof of refusal to accept a top 5 draft pick, it's a level of bad faith that every person sees.
You don't even want to hear this but they are going to get some momentum, get rolling a bit and get their record in better shape before too long. As frustrating and disappointing as the start has been, they really are not going to have one of the five worst records. They are still in the 15th-20th overall pick range in terms of relative quality to the rest of the league as a roster. It's one of this situations where you look back on it later and say "ever since X, these goalies actually have these strong numbers" and its been 5-6 weeks and they've been winning over that period of time. They could run out of runway to come back and get in because there are other improved teams, and that would be their fault, but there will be some semblance of a playoff chase this year IMO.

Re: Kiss the TOP5 draft pick goodbye
I thought I was clear.
Rosen, by himself, is not a TOP5 killer. However, Rosen reveals the DESPERATION with which Army will now update the roster to "stay competitive". Mark my words, Army will keep making moves now until we can get back to rank #15.
The cash register must ring, baby. So watch the old men appear on the ice.
Re: Kiss the TOP5 draft pick goodbye
Your general point has some merit as the Blues have stated they don't think the town would support a full rebuild. But Calle Rosen is not indicative of that. In any event, it is way too early in the season to expect Army to throw in the towel so I expect that additional moves may in fact be made. Regardless of whether you, or me, or anyone else thinks the Blues are best suited to let the kids play, they are not going to commit to a tank 12 games into a season where they hoped for another playoff run (as misguided as it may turn out to be).a smell of green grass wrote: ↑03 Nov 2025 15:47 pmI thought I was clear.

I've already bought my Rosen jersey. I already had one from before but he's so exciting I felt I needed another.

I'm not expecting them to "tank". I'm expecting them to rely on their draft picks to win. It makes no sense to bring in an old player that has ZERO CHANCE of being a Stanley Cup team.MiamiLaw wrote: ↑03 Nov 2025 15:53 pmYour general point has some merit as the Blues have stated they don't think the town would support a full rebuild. I guess they know their customers, and. I can't fault them for that. However, I'm not happy watching mediocre old guys skating around.

Army upgraded the Springfield roster, not the Blues’ roster. Why do you care about Springfield so much?a smell of green grass wrote: ↑03 Nov 2025 15:47 pmI thought I was clear.

How long do you think Rosen will be in Springfield? I'm going to guess that he will be with the Blues in a week.tfriede2 wrote: ↑03 Nov 2025 16:01 pmArmy upgraded the Springfield roster, not the Blues’ roster. I honestly don’t know - let’s see how it plays out. You could be right. I think we should give Lindstein a taste if we call anyone up.a smell of green grass wrote: ↑03 Nov 2025 16:02 pmHow long do you think Rosen will be in Springfield? Right that's the funny part. There wasn't even a corresponding roster move to add him to the big club. Oh noes!tfriede2 wrote: ↑03 Nov 2025 16:01 pmArmy upgraded the Springfield roster, not the Blues’ roster. He will be in the Lou. Shortly
A vet defender is a move the guy makes almost every year. Just hoping he isn't part of next year's opening lineup.

My guess is Kessel is headed back to Springfield and Rosen will be brought up to offer a more legit partner to Mailloux and/or Tucker, so they don’t lose their confidence any more than they already have. Kessel continued to make way too many mistakes to help either of them.

Re: Kiss the TOP5 draft pick goodbye
the way I see it, is that Rosen is so that until they get more games under their skates the Blues aren't comfortable having Mailloux and Tucker out there together, and they can't keep splitting up Parayko-Fowler and Faulk-Broberg.
This allows them to pair Mailloux with a calm, very vanilla defensive dman who just plays a smart game, isn't flashy and doesn't get caught out of position too often. Knows the Blues system and can help Mailloux get more minutes.
Tucker will then slide in when Rosen gets overexposed or Rosen will slide over to his off side.
Rosen will only help.

Re: Kiss the TOP5 draft pick goodbye
So you’re saying Rosen WILL IN FACT prevent the Blues from getting a top five pick all by himself. Oh the humanity!!!TheJackBurton wrote: ↑03 Nov 2025 16:28 pm the way I see it, is that Rosen is so that until they get more games under their skates the Blues aren't comfortable having Mailloux and Tucker out there together, and they can't keep splitting up Parayko-Fowler and Faulk-Broberg.

Simple solution…..don’t watch the product then.a smell of green grass wrote: ↑03 Nov 2025 15:58 pmI'm not expecting them to "tank". I'm expecting them to rely on their draft picks to win. You would be happier.
You wouldn’t whine like a little girl daily on here so we would be happier.
Everybody wins!
See how that works.
