Power Rankings - Blues at #28

Post by a smell of green grass »

Lovely.

Not everyone is surprised about this. In fact, some predicted a fall back to mediocrity.

What is the 5% date, when it is mathematically impossible to achieve a 5% gain? Is it next week?

Thomas and Neighbours are out injured. The team has no in-house replacement for Thomas, no one that can fill the skates of a 1C right now. So, this casts your post as reveling in the misery and misfortune of others.

Geez, just sign Viktor Lodin already. Can't hurt.

Army overrated the center position and his forward group as a whole. Zegras was available for peanuts. Zibanejad was worth a phone call. It’s hindsight but would’ve absorbed the blow of losing Thomas. Same with the overreach on Mailloux.

Wait till season end... We will hop up to the 12-16 range. Why do you think that we are on National TV often in March?

Some are thinking that we will have a top pick. That didn't happen in 2023. It sure won't happen this year.

I don't know if these other players would have helped or would have been available and at what cost. The issue here is this team is down their #1 center, this is a RISK that has materialized. If you look back at the preseason prognostications they come with the caveat "barring injuries to key players". Well, it happened. There is no in-house replacement for Thomas, no "next man up".

As bent out of shape as many seem to be about Bolduc how much appetite would there have been to trade Neighbours or Snuggerud or Holloway for help at center? It would almost certainly take a package including one or more of them to bring in a 2C who could step up in a pinch.

Zegras had been available for a while. Surely we could have afforded a 2nd a 4th and a 4th line throw in. You would have had Bolduc and a bonafide 2nd line center. Not bent out of shape it was and is a gamble and has backfired badly.
