World Series teams to win games 6&7 on the road

Post by 12xu »

I can only find 8 teams in WS history that did this. 4 of them had been down 3 games to 1: 2016 cubs, '79 Pirates, '68 Tigers (at St. Louis!), and '58 Yankees. The others are the Cardinals in '26 at Yankee Stadium, the Cardinals again in '34 at Detroit, the Yankees in '52 at Brooklyn, and the 2019 Nationals at Houston, which was also the only WS ever where the road team won every game!

It is my hope that the Dodgers will NOT be the 9th team to achieve this rare accomplishment.

Nobody on CT that I know was around for the 1934 Cardinals 'Gashouse Gang' comeback . That was 91 years ago and a Cardinal fan would need to be nearly 100 years old to have memory of that victory . Unsure if Old Red is our oldest poster on CT but even he falls short of being around for that series. For me personally , the furthest back the Cardinals have won any WS was 1964 . I was 16 years old that year.

The Cardinals previous championship was 1946 . I was born two years after that one.

I was 5 when the Cards won in '67. I remember that the Cardinals were my favorite team, that my dad always had the Cardinals games on the radio wherever we were, that Harry Caray was exciting. They won that WS and were in it again next year. I remember being confused when they lost because the Cardinals won the World Series every year, right? I had it all figured out by 1970, just in time for a very frustrating decade.

I was 10 in 1964 and remember that great season vividly.

My first games in person were a few years before that, before I really cared or understood baseball. First year I really followed it was the 2nd half of the 1963 season.

Exactly my hope as well. I am anticipating an eventful and effective offseason by Bloom and Co.

'64 was my first at 14. I'll never forget Ray Sadecki beating Whitey Ford and Mike Shannon's moonshot. All after a ridiculous September when they won the pennant on the last of season after trailing by 10 1/2 on Labor Day.

I was 12. During the series almost everyone from study hall and math classes went to the gym to watch the games on huge and heavy 24" TVs.

I was alive for 82 but 06 is the first I remember. I barely recall 85 and was heartbroken in 87.
