But the more I think into it the more I wonder if it just means Oli is on borrowed time in Blooms eyes and is just waiting for the greenlight to take him out back like old yeller. Maybe in his eyes there’s no sense in hiring anyone new when they will just be canned anyway once Bloom brings in his own manager that will want his own coaches. And unless the guy he wants is a scab it’s a tough sell to tell a manager with credibility and options that when they hire him that these specific coaches have to stay because we still want them. Leaving that managerial candidate with limited input on his staff.

So maybe he’s just treating this collection of coaches as a “make a wish” staff until the inevitable.

Either way it will still not be enjoyable seeing the lingering effects of the Mo era

Agree another season of watching Gorman and walker suck isn’t going to very exciting.

don't sell yourself short - you could do A LOT worse

Talkin' Baseball wrote: 30 Oct 2025 11:47 am I don't know if excited is the right word for me to use about the '26 Cards, but I am more interested in them than I have been for some time. Some things will be done differently and that badly needed to happen. We'll see if that makes them more exciting, or not. As for your news- that's something!
Will anything be different? The only change I see is the anticipated moves to trade Arenado and possibly Gray and Contreras. It looks like nothing more than lowering payroll while raising ticket prices.

The news of oli and staff returning tells me philosophies and play will be the same. Oli Ball will continue into 2026. That's where the changes needed to be made.
Too soon to say. The possiblility is stronger than it has been in some time. But, it seems like Nootbaar will still be here, they seem committed to sticking with Walker for now, they've said they will look at Herrera again as a catcher, Scott will be in center field. That really narrows the window for immediate change to Wetherholt, whatever return we might get from trades, and maybe a reduction in roster redundancies. Those are useful things and a good start, but there is a lot of work to be done. I, for one, am up for a lot of change. The more change there is, the more excited I will be about this team. Some change is guaranteed- will it be enough?
That is what I mean. Talk of Nootbaar, Walker, Gorman, Scott, and Herrera catching along with the same coaching staff seems a lot like 2025. Add in the possible subtraction s of Gray, Arenado, Donovan, and maybe Contreras, and it equals a year sucking (donkey).

Many give Marmol a pass due to lack of personnel. I can understand that, but he’s also had a chance to develop several young players and they’ve mostly regressed. It’s definitely not entirely his fault, but if the team is not committed to providing him better personnel then the only option that changes anything is attempt an real upgrade to the coaching staff, and I don’t mean voiceless assistants to the assistants. Otherwise, they are doing NOTHING…which is worse.
Oli needs to either develop those players in a positive direction or tell the GM they can’t be helped and need traded. If they have talent worth keeping and aren’t getting better, he’s not doing the job that the best manager would be doing here.

Appreciate the kind words.
Of course, everyone likes my posts (and learns from them), but not everyone makes it a point to say so.
That you took a moment to do so speaks well of you.
I do not always bring out the best in others (despite my purest intentions) but am gratified to have done so with you.

Serious question Volde. What are the two things that most youg hitters get wrong? Have my thoughts, wondering what your's are? Thanks
