Chad Powers

Post by George Zipp »

It's on Hulu. Premise is Glen Powell plays a disgraced former Oregon QB who dropped the football in the NCAA title game on the 1 yd line (taken from real world), ball is returned, Oregon loses the game and they Powell's character goes after someone on the sideline after the game, punches him in the face and the punchee falls into a cancer kid in a wheelchair and knocks him over.

From there the show proceeds to him using prosthetics to make himself into "Chad Powers" and start playing football again.

It's stupid, it's beyond all pale of reality, the football scenes mostly suck yet I'm highly entertained by the whole thing. Maybe it's the coaches daughter (who upon a quick search is married to Mark Sanchez, yeah, that Mark Sanchez). More likely it's the waiting for the entire house of cards to unravel like a bad play. Dunno but I'll keep watching.

I enjoyed Eli Manning as Chad Powers when he tried out for the Penn St. team but I just can't get myself to watch this.

This is pretty good so far. I just finished episode 1.

Sure, it’s absurd, but so are most sports comedies. I wasn’t worried about plot holes during The Waterboy, it’s still a classic.

The line about his high school crowds depending on whether wild wolves would show up to carry off children had me rolling.

I just finished EP 5 of 6 last night. I'll watch 6 just because.

I'll be interested in your take once you get thru. It's an easy watch, short episodes. But man alive I have some things to say that I won't until you are done.

I’m caught to where you are. It’s silly and funny, something enjoyable to watch for a comedy and football fan. The dialogue and jokes are light and amusing . And ESPN is certainly getting its pub.

What are your thoughts that you referenced before? Not saying it’s deep by any means, but a good popcorn show.

I agree with your take. I believe the last EP drops today.

I guess the only thing that really bothers me is that we are now up to two random occasions where the real guy (his freaking character name slips me) just happens to be in the vicinity of Chad. Once was at the hotel at the road game in TN and the other was at the bar when he met and then banged the coaches wife. Yet nobody can figure this puzzle out.

Trying to guess if coach or coaches daughter will figure it out first. Pretty sure she's clued in now.

Doesn't seem like they can take this story very far. Not really sure where we go from here. Whatever, you are correct, it's silly harmless fun.

I finished it a couple of days ago, and I liked it. I don't think it is earth shattering, but there are some pretty hilarious one-liners and scenes.
Spoiler
You know how many head coaches would look the other way if something like this happened in real life? I bet more then you think, if they knew they could pull it off, would let it go. I thought of a few coaches that if it saved their job, they would be in.
