Just no. Castellanos does nothing for this team. Dump the contract, eat the money, move on.ecleme22 wrote: ↑30 Oct 2025 09:47 am I think with NA, beggars can’t be choosers.
So here’s what a NA/NC trade gets you:
1. 17 mil freed up. I can’t think of a trade where the cards can get THAT much more in return.
2. OF help. I know he’s not a good OFer, but he is an OFer who rarely is injured. What a concept.
3. A bounce-back candidate w one year remaining on his contract. So maybe there’s hoping to flip him at the DL.
If you think this NC trade is a bad one, that’s fair. But I don’t see a situation where an NA trade isn’t a little ugly.

Love it. Of Castellanos Walker and Burleson
Worst defense ever. Then Gorman at 3rd, Herrera catching.

Re: Article speculates an Arenado to Pillies trade for Castellanos
Alot of these ideas have to do with how many players from the Gorman, Donovan, Burleson category get traded. It's possible that we do end up bringing a veteran (Castellanos, or it could relate to the Cedric Mullins idea from yesterday) on board to backfill what we traded, because I just can't envision a scenario where Nathan Church is going to get runway for a full-time job.
I would be willing to believe that Castellanos has a better chance than Arenado does of putting up a good enough 1st half to be flipped again at the deadline. It helps that he's a free agent after 2026. Someone will be looking for a RH rental bat, I'm sure.
Bottomline, it works only if both of Burleson and Donovan end up traded.

I want no part of Castellanos. I can still see him standing over Yadi at home plate! The guy’s a jerk!

I would pass on Castellanos myself. Good career hitter but aging and declining.
Would make more sense to just save whatever you can and go with an internal option(Donovan/Gorman) to replace Arenado.

This trade idea is simply an exchange of bad contracts.
The Phillies aren't taking on NADO's entire contract w/o dumping Castellanos.
Sure he's J. Walker (who needs to spend all of 2026 at Memphis) like defensively in RF but he's also a better hitter (17 HR/72 RBI).
IF the Cardinals can see a net savings of $17+M dealing NADO
and
IF BDWJr allows C. Bloom to use that savings to add a player or two, then this deal works.
Doubt it happens, just one of many NADO idea's we'll be seeing starting next week.

Remember, we gave up Elehuris Montero and Austin Gomber for Arenado. And that was when he was still in his prime. I'm really curious what type of prospects people expect back for him at this point. Whatever it would be, would be less than Montero and Gomber.
Out of all the Arenado trade ideas I've seen I like this one better. If it's Castellanos' attitude you guys don't like, then he should look like a saint compared to Marcus Stroman.

Arenado is the better player at this point. And cheaper although you got him for 2 years versus one. There isn't much point doing this deal. Well PHI might do it if they are desperate for a glove first 3B.

And Will Clark once took on Ozzie and Oquendo. That ain't gonna stop this deal.
Also, not to be that guy, but it was the legendary...Jake Woodford.
Anywho...I don't hate the deal. Truth be told, when trading Arenado, I'd rather trade overpaid veteran for overpaid veteran than overpaid veteran for some no-name lotto ticket pitcher in A-ball who throws a 100 mph but couldn't hit the broadside of a barn if it were the strike zone.

I agree. And, you're getting a potential trade chip at the TDL.Strummer Jones wrote: ↑30 Oct 2025 12:38 pmAnd Will Clark once took on Ozzie and Oquendo. That ain't gonna stop this deal.

Had it been Yadi, Castellanos would've been missing a few teeth.Strummer Jones wrote: ↑30 Oct 2025 12:38 pmAnd Will Clark once took on Ozzie and Oquendo. That ain't gonna stop this deal.

I agree 100% strummer
If they do a "bad contract for a lesser bad contract" deal that nets the Cardinals $17+M in payroll savings that BDWJr let's C. Bloom re-invest like this one would, then I'd also rather get back a major league player (even one near the end like Castellanos) than some lotto prospect who'll never see MLB.
