Re: What Did you Expect and Why Were You Fooled?
I expected more consistent play, better goaltending, and a little over .500 record so yes I was fooled.
Others have pointed out how many mistakes our vets are making and I did not expect that. We have had a lot of bad bounces but those usually even out over time. No way we are getting games back that we blow from mistakes and bad goaltending.
If they play "their game" and still lose you look for little tweaks to improve that. Monty has been very clear that they are not playing their game so you have bad prep, poor coaching, or low motivation- or answer D.

Re: What Did you Expect and Why Were You Fooled?
This kind of reminds me of the Blues team after they had that great run to sneak into the playoffs in 2008-2009.
They had most of the pieces in place, (Petro, Oshie, Perron, Berglund, etc. and added Shattenkirk & Stewart, then drafted Tarasenko & Schwartz in 2010.
They missed the playoffs in 2010 & 2011 and then began a nice run for the next 5-6 years. Unfortunately, they ran into the Hawks & the Kings when they were the class of the league and didn't beat either one until 2016.
Not saying this team is headed down the same path, but the drop off in play should NOT be a shock.
Look at all of the teams that have spent 5-10 years drafting in the top 10 every year and look at their success rate. Buffalo, San Jose, Ottawa, Detroit, Arizona/Utah, Anaheim & Chicago.
How many times have these teams made the playoffs in the last 7-8 years AND how many playoff series have they won? Most Importantly-- How much more time do those teams need to actually be just competitive?????

Detroit, Utah, Anaheim and Chicago are turning the corner - Ottawa made the playoffs last year and are improving - Buffalo and San Jose are two of the worst run organizations in the game.PPG wrote: ↑29 Oct 2025 09:59 am Look at all of the teams that have spent 5-10 years drafting in the top 10 every year and look at their success rate. And that’s exactly what would be happening if the Blues weren’t getting unlucky on top of the truth of their actual place in this league.hotrivets wrote: ↑29 Oct 2025 09:43 am I expected more consistent play, better goaltending, and a little over .500 record so yes I was fooled.

The point is this is going as bad as it could go.
But the best it could go is not anywhere near competing for a Cup and just a borderline playoff team.
The issue is, what’s happening around the Blues in the division and the league as a whole makes the short and long term future of how this franchise will compete very bleak.

They're gonna get clobbered by the Blue Jackets & Capitals coming up soon after Halloween.

Does anyone else think that Mike Kelly and Brayden Schenn kind of look a like? Of course with Schenner, we never get to see his face so close up!sneptsmoustache wrote: ↑29 Oct 2025 07:17 amAlright this actually made me laugh out loud. That poor guy...can't they back the camera off of his face by a few inches? Overall, the whole "Mike Kelly interlude" thing is kind of weird...I actually can't even focus on what he's saying because I'm always thinking "this guy again, whose idea was it and why is it so poorly executed and awkward"?TheSolution wrote: ↑28 Oct 2025 20:48 pm
And worse, we have to listen to this loser Mike Kelly with his face zoomed into the screen instead of at least seeing some tattas with Alexa.
"Here's some dude that you've never heard of, we're not sure what his actual job is or whether he has any hockey cred at all, after an awkward pause he's going to say a couple things like 'the Blues are losing 4-1 and the advanced stats show why' and then throw it back to Kerbs and Joe."

I don't think you been following what Mike Grier has been doing. especially with what he was dealt.BalotelliMassive wrote: ↑29 Oct 2025 10:07 amDetroit, Utah, Anaheim and Chicago are turning the corner - Ottawa made the playoffs last year and are improving - Buffalo and San Jose are two of the worst run organizations in the game.PPG wrote: ↑29 Oct 2025 09:59 am Look at all of the teams that have spent 5-10 years drafting in the top 10 every year and look at their success rate. Re: What Did you Expect and Why Were You Fooled?
They lost a series to a goalie that had a 81.5% sv pct. That’s impressive futility. They needed a franchise record win streak just to get there. They were the playoffs’ “ultimate loser”: lost to WPG who lost to DAL who lost to EDM who lost to FLA.
Then the major was offseason move was a trade that took away a major catalyst for the win streak for an unknown.
I didn’t expect this but I thought people around here had some overly optimistic expectations

Re: What Did you Expect and Why Were You Fooled?
Helly was much better at home and WPG was the best home team in the NHL. The Blues should have won at least 1 of those but lost all 4 by 1 goal (minus empty nets). They were clearly the better team in StLMiamiLaw wrote: ↑29 Oct 2025 22:01 pm They lost a series to a goalie that had a 81.5% sv pct. That’s impressive futility.
