Back in the early 1960's as a teen, remember listening to a Cardinals at Pittsburge game on my radio til around 1 a.m or so . Game was played at Forbes Field . I lives in Wis. at that time but KMOX has the clear channel signal to get Cardinal games at night .Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑28 Oct 2025 01:56 amDefinitely the longest I’ve ever stayed up watching a game.
Like you Ozzie , that was my lnogest watching on TV. Back in the 70's , some buddies and me went to Country Stadium Milw. and were there for a game that went past 1 a.m .. When game ended, we had two hour drive back home so we stopped at Denny's restaurant ordered breakfast . Got back to our city just after 4 a.m. 3 of us didn't have to go to work that day but one guy worked at the local radio station and he had to 'sign on' at the station at 5 a.m. He just made it and went 'on air' on time ! You can imagine how tired he was doing a 4 hour shift from 5 til 9 a.m.

You just made me think of a game from the dramatic final week of the 1964 season where the Cards won their game at home, but KMOX kept Haray Carey on the air from Busch Stadium (1) while tapping into the audio of the Pirates game in Cincinnati, as that game went deep into extra innings, eventually going 16 and stretching past midnight Central Time. the Pirates won, putting the Cards into first place fof the first time all season with three games to play.ramfandan wrote: ↑28 Oct 2025 02:07 amBack in the early 1960's as a teen, remember listening to a Cardinals at Pittsburge game on my radio til around 1 a.m or so . Yes, listened to that game in 64 .. what a thrilling year as Phillies had historic collapse. On final Sunday, there was chance for a 3 way tie but Cards won it without a playoff.BrummerStealsHome wrote: ↑29 Oct 2025 15:12 pmYou just made me think of a game from the dramatic final week of the 1964 season where the Cards won their game at home, but KMOX kept Haray Carey on the air from Busch Stadium (1) while tapping into the audio of the Pirates game in Cincinnati, as that game went deep into extra innings, eventually going 16 and stretching past midnight Central Time. the Pirates won, putting the Cards into first place fof the first time all season with three games to play.ramfandan wrote: ↑28 Oct 2025 02:07 amBack in the early 1960's as a teen, remember listening to a Cardinals at Pittsburge game on my radio til around 1 a.m or so . My late father stayed up for the entire 25 inning Cards/Mets game at Shea Stadium in 1974. When you're self-employed, you can do that.

Seem to remember a Cardinal game on KMOX that went 20 some innings. I remember Claude Osteen pitched ten innings and got the win, early seventies. I seem to remember 3 AM on that one.

Long career, pitched 8 games total with Cardinals and this one where he threw innings 14-23, went 9.1 innings (didn’t get the win, though)
Still, pretty incredible memory of a player whom otherwise would be entirely forgettable for Cardinals fans. I’d never heard of him.

I went to this game. We stayed all 17 innings, even though they stopped selling beer in the 13th.

As an aside, that game has peripheral importance wrt my handle. The Cards left 24 (24!) men on base but lost in the heat of a pennant race, falling to 2 games back at the time. 3 weeks later, they were in the 12th inning of another game, leaving runners stranded, and it seemed like the 17-inning game all over again. Then Glenn Brummer said "the-hell-with-this" and stole home with 2 outs and 2 strikes on the batter. It was an awesome moment in the annals of Cardinals baseball.

apparently the Muncy home run WS game (2018?) was actually longer time wise (they both went 18 innings I think)
