WBB Maryville 90 Mizzou 84 in OT

Post by TheMajicMan »

Mizzou women lost an exhibition game to D2 Maryville at Mizzou Arena. (Just a practice game and Mizzou was missing about 4 players)

Just taking a quick look at the stats. A slight rebounding edge but 18 turnovers and shooting 3-30 from the 3 point line, a whopping 10%. That will spell disaster in a lot of games. Luckily it’s early.

Look at the bright side

It gave you an opportunity to attack a Mizzou basketball stalwart.

It was exhibition. It didn't count. We were missing players. BUT it was vs MARYVILLE!!!! I'm not jumping to conclusions, but an SEC team should be able to beat Maryville without half the squad. Hopefully, HCKH was taking the game as a practice & trying to teach some lessons. Hope they learn. With 18 turnovers they obviously haven't gotten rid of the Pingeton foibles. 3 for 30 from 3? Sounds like a jack-up-fest.

Last year Maryville was a .500 team at the D2 level. In an exhibition game against Indiana last year at this time, who was a pretty good team. Indy lost in 2nd round of NCAA tourney. Indy beat Maryville 95-27 in last fall’s exhibition.

Sounds like we have major issues on defense this year. Even missing some players, we shouldn’t have trouble beating Maryville in an exhibition. Could be a LONG season.

Maryville has Illinois next in an exhibition so we’ll see how that goes.

MU has D2 Talent , Maryville is a well below average D2 bb program.

If your recruiting Jeff City Jay girls to win at D1 , these are the expected results

Ace has SEC rant talent. He is a well below average Tigerboard poster.

If you're believing trolls who have been absent for so long that previous posts aren't even on the radar, these are the expected replies.

The fact that Maryville didn't play very well and still won...not good. Maryville shot below 40% on both 2s and 3s, and less than 70% from the FT line. Any 5 players on the roster, playing all 40 minutes, should still beat this level of D2 team. Coaches should not have a hard time convincing players come ready to work today.

What started as a comfortable exhibition turned into a wake-up call for the Missouri women's basketball team.

The Tigers led 16–1 early and appeared to be in complete control, pounding the glass and forcing turnovers. Illinois State transfer Shannon Dowell sparked the opening surge with seven quick points, while Grace Slaughter and Jordana Reisma carved up the paint.

By halftime, though, the game had shifted. Missouri's 15-point cushion had shrunk to four, and the Saints — a Division II program from St. Louis — were starting to believe. When the final buzzer sounded in overtime, belief had become a 90–84 Maryville
