Mailloux Last Night

Post by Frank Underwood »

Wasn’t going to post since there is a lot going on today, but……in my attempt at being a sunny optimist, I thought he looked good last night. I kept my attention on him every time he was on the ice, and I honestly saw nothing negative. He was on for one goal against, but that’s the play where Walker left his guy alone in front of the net and went for the puck behind the net. Mailloux was where he was supposed to be on that play, and pretty much the whole game. He played a few more minutes last night (13+) and he looked more comfortable than he did in the first few games. Maybe just maybe he is trending in the right direction. That could be one issue we check off our list of worries soon.

Would like to get a chance to see the offensive talent he's known for but they've probably told him to focus on his defense because he has to be able to not be a negative there to justify ice time.

I was in and out of the game last night but good to hear he looked more comfortable.

Same here Miami, and quite frankly, I’d like to see him drop the gloves as well. I think both of those things can help him get a little more comfortable. Well, unless he gets destroyed in a fight…..so he should choose wisely!

That fourth goal against which put the game out of reach was literally pitiful from him. He is so weak and his instincts are so bad

Was the 4th goal when Mailloux had his man pinned behind the net but for some unknown reason Walker completely abandoned his position and also went behind the net? Classic.

I posted something similar last night they used a PP last night that used all of Texier, Joseph and Sundqvist and yet Broberg and Mailloux didin’t see the ice on the PP. It makes zero sense. Then they have Schenn out by the blue line making ill advised passes and struggling too handle the puck in general. The Blues act like it is forbidden to have more than one D on each PP unit, no matter how awful the forward options are.

I literally just went to ESPN to rewatch that goal. Yes, that’s the one that Walker left his guy alone. I don’t fault LM on that one at all, unless Seattle is suggesting that he should have prevented the guy from making the pass.

Mailloux had another solid night. Not as good as 2 nights ago where he looked to be trying to get offensive but it was a solid night. If he was your 6th defender on a lot of teams you would have had no complaints. Hopefully stacking a couple of those together leads to some good things. Walker left him out to dry yesterday with that play as the player was in a non dangerous position. I guess I see what Walker was thinking because it looked like he was about to give up the puck but he also was about to give up the puck to walker if he would have just been patient.

Kessel aint the answer. I think this is on Monty for scapegoating a defender in Mailloux and shuffling up the lines non stop when you got horrendous goalie play out of Hofef and bad goalie play out of Binner. I felt for Binner yesterday because that ricochet goal was a back breaker. But now that I know the information that we have 2 of the worst goalies to start the year off on high vision shots, I'm not going to be putting anything on the defense.

Another fun fact, last year when the Blues scored 4 goals or more they were 32-0. We are 2-2. Goalie play has to improve before anyone can play with any kind of confidence out there. These aren't backdoor tapins like 4 years ago that started the sell off.

In the NHL the point of this would be, defender go check the puck carrier, forward then covers the front of the net, just has to get in the way enough to not allow a tap in if Mailloux fails to stop the puck. This was in NO WAY on the defender, doesnt matter if the defender was Bobby Orr its on Walker 100%.

You must have watched a different game or you thought the thread was about Nathan Walker.

I blame Tucker on that one. He didn't guard the front of the net.

Of all the people to blame the 4th goal on. The defenseman who was tying up his man behind the net is not the one. Walker is the one who left his man alone in front of the net and we got burned because of it.
