This is a big reason Drink will stay at Mizzou for quite a while
Mizzou doesn't have the "fire the head coach" mentality, for some hiccups, that many big time programs have. Drinkwitz is at an ideal place for him, right now.
Re: This is a big reason Drink will stay at Mizzou for quite a while
The SEC is a tough league, but it always comes down to expectations. Take LSU firing Kelly, for example. He was in his fourth year, consistently ranked, won 10 games a couple of times.
Yet the three coaches prior to Kelly--Saban, Orgeron, and Miles--each won a national championship in their first four years. That's a tough act to follow but that's what the job called for.
At the other end of the spectrum, Stoops has been at Kentucky for years turning out over-achieving teams but looks to have worn out his welcome. He'll probably get pink-slipped this year, with a nice buyout of course.

NIL and the transfer portal have completely changed college football. LSU, Penn State, and Florida are still good jobs. But because of the unrealistic expectations that comes with it, they’re not that great of a job.
Each of those will have to hire someone who can take or leave it. An established coach doing well at a school with lesser expectations like Mizzou or Ol Miss will need to think carefully about jumping ship. Mizzou offers Drinkwitz absolutely everything he could want. Why leave?

Drink better be thankful he is at Mizzou.Armchair QB wrote: ↑27 Oct 2025 20:07 pm NIL and the transfer portal have completely changed college football. LSU, Penn State, and Florida are still good jobs. But because of the unrealistic expectations that comes with it, they’re not that great of a job.

Drink's good buddy Blake Baker is in misery after he was hired at LSU.
Blake divorced his wife after her alleged affair with Kelly.
I bet Baker will be gone from LSU before long.
Like they say, "the grass is always greener on the other side."
In Baker's case, that's not true.
How can Baker concentrate on his job with all the things that happened to him since he left Mizzou.
Maybe Baker could beg Drink to consider him for "linebackers coach."
Right now, Drink is a contender for the LSU job. He should be thankful he is head coach at Mizzou.
LSU is a mess and his pal Blake is in misery.

Keep seeing Drink mentioned for the Florida job. Still not seeing the appeal for him.
Re: This is a big reason Drink will stay at Mizzou for quite a while
Drink makes really good money as the Head Coach at Mizzou. He's the head coach in the top conference in college football. He has good NIL and facilities support. He has two major cities in the state to recruit from with very little in state competition. And the administration, influential boosters, the media and fan base don't seem as hostile as some other top jobs are. There are some sensible reasons for him to remain at Mizzou.

And fairly close to his home area. He does have a really good gig going at Mizzou.mdkieffer wrote: ↑02 Nov 2025 15:04 pmHe has it made in CoMO. agreed. Then the school has given him anything he asked for...new training / practice facility attached to the south end of stadium. Then the north end $250m addition. Faurot Field will be a site to see.Shady wrote: ↑02 Nov 2025 15:05 pmAnd fairly close to his home area. The University should install a Drinkwitz Beer Stand inside Memorial Stadium to honor Eliah.

Mentality can change in a heartbeat.
Drinkwitz recently signed an extension so his contract goes through 2029. There are also buyout clauses if Mizzou terminates his contract for convenience or if he gets happy feet and leaves. If he leaves he pays the school much less than if the school terminates him (see below).
Contract details
Extension length: The contract is extended through the 2029 season.
Salary and compensation:
2025: $9 million
2026: $9.25 million
2028: $9.5 million
2029: $9.5 million
Buyout for Drinkwitz:
If he leaves before December 1, 2025: $5 million
If he leaves between December 2, 2025 and December 1, 2027: $4 million
If he leaves between December 2, 2027 and December 1, 2028: $3 million
If he leaves between December 2, 2028 and December 1, 2029: $1 million
Buyout for the university: If the university fires him without cause, they owe him 75% of his remaining guaranteed compensation.
My take, he isn’t going anywhere soon.
