What free agent pitchers may Cardinals target this winter ?
In Derrick Goold's chat on Monday , he thought Bloom would probably sign two free agent pitchers this winter. We know there won't be any high end types but have you any thoughts on any starting type pitchers that Bloom may go after ? I do not have any at this time.

Not exciting but Seems like Matz should be a top candidate in that range...

Well if it was Mo I would be asking for a list of pitchers coming off Tommy John.

Zack Littell, Merrill Kelly, wild card Dustin May or Walker Buelher. Maybe a overseason returnee Anthony Kay. One of Littell or Kelly might not be bad, not sure of the other. Add relief types, Matz, Maton, Helsley (doubtful), or anyone of a dozen or so relievers

Re: What free agent pitchers may Cardinals target this winter ?
Spotrac has offered some salary projections for free agent pitchers this offseason. Here are a few:
Griffin Canning 4.2
German Marquez 3.2
Tyler Mahle 5.6
Jordan Montgomery 2.6
Jose Quintana 3.4
John Means 1.0
If those are in the actual range, give me Tyler Mahle at 5.6 and Jose Quintana at 3.4. They were actually good last year. If I had to replace one of those, I would want Jordan Montgomery.

I'd like to see them try to get Walker Buehler on a 1 year. Flip at the deadline if he's performing.

My #1 would be Z. Gallen.
Young enough (2026 is his age 30 season) for C. Bloom to build a starting rotation around, a pitcher you could have in his prime for the next four-five years.

Do you think they will spend that kind of money this winter? I don't.rockondlouie wrote: ↑24 Oct 2025 10:41 am My #1 would be Z. Gallen.

Nope me either TB, BDWJr is going to keep a tight grip on the wallet this offseason.Talkin' Baseball wrote: ↑24 Oct 2025 10:57 amDo you think they will spend that kind of money this winter? I don't.rockondlouie wrote: ↑24 Oct 2025 10:41 am My #1 would be Z. Gallen.

But if they deal S. Gray, then I would!
Gallen would give them a jumpstart on building a quality rotation.

I think Bloom would sign someone in the Kelly range and maybe a flier on Buehlor or May. That could allow him to focus on prospect returns in any trades.
Johnny bow ties would be scouring the earth for some rotten fruit reject. Or attempting to lure Kurt Kepshire out of retirement.

The Cubs have a $6mm option or 750k buyout on Colin Rea next year. If the Cubs decline he would be a good candidate for a similar deal with the Cards.

Roll of the dice signing:
$3M/1 year on D. May/28 yrs old
(I'd rather take a shot on him than another year of A. Pallante )
 )
