ACC could steal CFP spots

ACC could steal CFP spots
ACC is so large none of the top teams play each other. We could very easily see this as the final standing heading into ACC Championship.
Georgia Tech 11-1 (1st in ACC Championship). Only top 25 opponent Georgia (L)
Louisville 11-1 (2nd in ACC Championship). Only top 25 opponent Miami (W)
Miami 11-1 (misses ACC Championship). Only top 25 opponent ND (W)
Virginia 11-1 (misses ACC Championship). No top 25 opponents on schedule
This just screams of taking 3 CFP spots, when none except the Champion are deserved.

Re: ACC could steal CFP spots
The ACC CG loser will have at least two losses, unless GaTech can somehow pull a rabbit out their hat and beat Georgia.
And as the OP points out, no other ACC team not playing in that game will deserve a spot, due to not having a resume even close to the 4-5th best SEC team.
This won't be an AP Poll from the 20th Century.

Had the misfortune of watching the GT v Duke game - it was like watching a average Group of 5 game. Yet GT is already penciled in for the CFP.rezero wrote: ↑18 Oct 2025 11:35 am ACC is so large none of the top teams play each other. Re: ACC could steal CFP spots
The futures odds show Georgia as an 18pt favorite over GT. Nobody can say they are one of the top 12 teams in the country. The problem is that despite the selection committee saying that quality wins will be a key barometer, it has never happened in the past.JackBolly wrote: ↑19 Oct 2025 09:03 amHad the misfortune of watching the GT v Duke game - it was like watching a average Group of 5 game. Two points:
1. If the OP is correct, the sham will be exposed when ACC teams are destroyed in the playoffs.
2. No team with serious NT chances is likely to be excluded because of pretender ACC teams. If you can't win one of the three+ spots sure to go to the SEC, you're very unlikely to win the NT anyway.

So it's ok to basically hand the ACC CFP $$$'s for pretender teams? Pretty sure the ACC would gladly take that every year.Red Bird Classic wrote: ↑19 Oct 2025 09:20 am Two points:

Re: ACC could steal CFP spots
Mississippi State would likely be the ACC champion.

If Mizzou was the 12th best team in the SEC, some of the people in this forum would be crying about how 12 SEC teams should be picked for the playoff to justify Mizzou getting in. The fact is Mizzou rarely beats the teams that are better than them and until they do, they have no business sniffing the playoffs.
