Humor Me - One Move they Make
IMO the Cardinals won't do much, this will be let's see what we have and develop the minor leaguers we currently have and have coming in.
With that said, what one move will they make in your opinion. I would think most of us would agree they will prune the current roster somehow, someway.
Is it at the catching position with all the depth and active players who have value?
Arb guys who are going to cost a lot more but who control
High priced FA that needs to take a hike to free up cash flow and open up a spot for eval and opportunity.
I'm stuck between moving on from a catcher, Pages or Pozo (maybe Crooks) or Nootbaar. He had his chance, has limited control and is now aging out. He has some value being able to play all 3 outfield positions, lefty and when right can draw a ton of walks and hit for a little power. Maybe unrefined bullpen arm?
Anyway just curious what foresee happening if only one move was to occur, or if you want, the highest probability of <N> move happening.

If they’re not going to play to win why does it matter? There is no one on this team who is a no doubt keeper……so trade most of the team and maybe you get lucky with a sleeper return.Alex Reyes Cy Young wrote: ↑19 Oct 2025 07:30 am IMO the Cardinals won't do much, this will be let's see what we have and develop the minor leaguers we currently have and have coming in.

Nootbaar gets traded. Failure of Bloom to move him would be a Mo like event.

Donny is a keeper but his career timing is not in sync with a World Series run and that makes him expendableGoldfan wrote: ↑19 Oct 2025 08:10 amIf they’re not going to play to win why does it matter? Re: Humor Me - One Move they Make
The single one move that the Cards could do to get better is to go out and sign the best free agent pitcher available. They won't of course because they're penny pinchers. But a dominant starter would make the rest of the pitching better.Alex Reyes Cy Young wrote: ↑19 Oct 2025 07:30 am IMO the Cardinals won't do much, this will be let's see what we have and develop the minor leaguers we currently have and have coming in.

The one move I feel strongly they make is dealing NADO.
Re: Humor Me - One Move they Make
Won’t happen. Not because they’re “penny pinchers”, but because tying up a big % of your payroll on one arm isn’t smart.CCard wrote: ↑19 Oct 2025 08:28 amThe single one move that the Cards could do to get better is to go out and sign the best free agent pitcher available. Re: Humor Me - One Move they Make
they wont sign any big contract as one, bd3 never does, and also they will wait to see if there is a salary cap which thus would bring down the levels paid for many contracts for 2027 season. But then folks sitting here thinking cards will just go out and buy what all they need in 2027, seem to not mention that many many teams could do the same and thus tons of bidders to compete against.

Re: Humor Me - One Move they Make
Obviously, Bloom will trade Nootbaar. That shouldn't even count.
Then he needs to move either Arenado or Gorman. That also shouldn't count. It's malpractice he doesn't.
Donovan and Gray are the real indicators. If this team is serious about rebuilding this roster, those guys should both be traded. If, however, BDW continues to dream of 80ish wins and a WC game (which I think is the case), Bloom won't be allowed to get rid of them.
Let's put it this way: if Mo were still in charge, it's easy to imagine how this winter would go. Mo would trade Noot, then fix one big roster problem (this year, it has to be another starter), then start talking about how he likes the options we have for everything else. "Gotta see what we have in these young players...it's a make or break year for Players A, B, C..." etc. etc.
If this winter looks like that, we'll know Mo was never really the problem...and that Cardinal Nation is in for a long, long next 5-10 years.

Re: Humor Me - One Move they Make
Obviously we are all just guessing. The Cardinals never give away what they are actually thinking or going to do. That is except last off season, when Mo plainly stated he wanted to move Arenado. That didn’t work out so well!
I think this off season will be different, simply because, even Nolan seemed to believe he would not be returning, and was more acceptable to that fact. So, no matter what it costs or takes, I think Arenado will be playing somewhere else next season.
Also, the fact that Contreras left open that possibility, I think he’ll be moved. He actually should be easier to move than Arenado. The return should also be greater.
Sonny’s contract makes it tougher to move him, but if they are really serious about moving him, they can, but it won’t come cheap.
Any and everyone else is pure speculation. It all depends which teams are interested in which player and what they are willing to part with to acquire them. It should be really interesting to see what actually happens.
I wish the Dodgers would hurry up and get the obvious over with, so we can get down to it.

I think it will be a fairly active offseason. Nado, gone. Gray gone. Willie 50% gone. What they get back will be interesting.Alex Reyes Cy Young wrote: ↑19 Oct 2025 07:30 am IMO the Cardinals won't do much, this will be let's see what we have and develop the minor leaguers we currently have and have coming in.

Noot gone. Gorman 60% gone. Donovan toss up.
You mentioned the catchers, I don't think they will trade a catcher this winter unless someone just offers a huge deal for Crooks or Ivan. I believe Pages and Pozo both have options available. If not, they are the type of player who can be cut with very little cost. (or traded for cash)
Saggesse, Prieto and Fermin, either one could be included in a deal.
I would not surprise me if they resigned Helsley to a one year low cost contract, maybe with an option of some type. Same with Maton or Matz. They need to sign at least one experienced starter like Lynn/Gibson. There should be several available, some better and younger that won't break the bank. One that I can think of off hand would be Zack Littell.
So yep, I expect a lot of movement this winter, just not with high dollar players coming to the Cards.
Ohh if you ask again next week, my answer will probably be different

Do not bring back Nado's best golfing bud so Nado has any reason to stay.I would not surprise me if they resigned Helsley to a one year low cost contract, maybe with an option of some type
Re: Humor Me - One Move they Make
Nado and Noot to the Angels. Pages to Tampa. All for pitching prospects.

Noots gone for sure if bloom is smart Gorman will be gone if he’s as bad at judging talent as mo he will keep Gorman
