Greatest postseason game ever?

Post by sp25 »

Ohtani certainly had a great game, and his pitching combined with his hitting makes his performance unique.

However, here are single game records for hitting in a World Series game:

Hits - 5, held by two players
Runs - 4, held by 11 players
HR - 3, held by 4 players
RBI - 6, held by 4 players
TB - 14, held by one player

In 2011 game 3, Albert Pujols set or tied every one of these records. He didn't pitch, of course, but to me this game is not talked about enough, even by Cardinals fans.

The single best offensive performance in World Series history.

Giants fan?

Panda followed Pujols the next year by going 4 for 4 in game 1 of the WS, with 3 runs, 4 RBI, 3 HRs, and 13 TB. So he tied only one of the records that Pujols holds listed above.

Excellent point.
Here is another MLB playoff game probably unmatched in history.
1982 WS Game 3.
Rookie Willie McGee hit 2 HR, scored 2, drove in 4.
He also took a HR away from Gorman Thomas with one of the best leaping catches in WS history.
And he took a double or triple away from Paul Molitor by climbing the CF wall.
Perhaps the best offense/defense single game performance ever produced in the World Series.

Good recall. Brooks Robinson had similar all around games in 1970

no - but for me it did kinda dampen Pujols doing it a year prior

Outstanding point.
Unbelievable performance by Robinson in that series.

Yeah, have to admit I felt the same way. And to think, if the Cardinals hadn't blown a 3-1 lead in the NLCS, Panda wouldn't have even been in that WS.
