now we're pining for nick leddy?? lol
Re: Practice Lines (10/17)
Seems more logical than thinking/continuing to think Mailloux and Tucker should be our 3rd pair.

Re: Practice Lines (10/17)
Right. That's where I see a big disconnect on this board. People want to move on from these guys ... and then when we hit a rough patch, people think these guys would be the answer? It makes no sense to me. I don't want to go back to any of the stuff that we moved on from ... Saad, Leddy, Suter, etc. And we don't need a Lucic. A young, physical guy who can skate, hit, and contribute? Sure. Not a 37 y.o. who hasn't played in 2 years.
Maybe we end up with a 28 y.o. inexpensive vet (if that person exists) who could help LM more than Tucker ... but not a mid 30s guy whose best hockey is way in the past.

Re: Practice Lines (10/17)
been said all summer there was going to be growing pains with the young dmen. it's not surprising, and not unexpected. Like Pronger said, lets see what it looks like after a coupla hundred games. I remember him being pretty bad when he first got here as well
that being said, I said before I'm surprised they didn't bring Suter back to help with this. maybe he didn't want that role.. who knows

I know you are joking about Robinson (coach not player) but it was only a few years ago that people here were wanting the Blues to sign a 50 year old Jaromir Jagr. Some were totally serious. And now people are totally serious about Ryan Suter .. forgetting that Monty played Tucker over him in the playoffs.moose-and-squirrel wrote: ↑18 Oct 2025 13:42 pmwhere's Larry Robinson (the coach, not the player lol) when ya need himb-a-a-a-rclay wrote: ↑18 Oct 2025 13:38 pmRight. IF Suter came back, it'd def wouldn't be as a full time player, that's for sure. it was pretty obvious by the PO's he was spent. I think folks are just suggesting a part time vet that could help the young'ens grow their game a bitb-a-a-a-rclay wrote: ↑18 Oct 2025 13:58 pmI know you are joking about Robinson (coach not player) but it was only a few years ago that people here were wanting the Blues to sign a 50 year old Jaromir Jagr. it was noted that LM stayed on the ice after practice to get some work in, but did the defensive coach stay with him?

Re: Practice Lines (10/17)
Monty mentioned they will do video work with LM. One problem is that he has actually had a heavy percentage of defensive zone starts compared to others. They have to protect him with O zone starts as much as possible for a while.moose-and-squirrel wrote: ↑18 Oct 2025 14:18 pmIF Suter came back, it'd def wouldn't be as a full time player, that's for sure. it was pretty obvious by the PO's he was spent. Here's something I noticed ... in preseason practices they do a ton of 2 on 1s and 3 on 2s but very little time of 5v5. He seems to need to see game situations and all the confusion of 5v5. LM looks hurried. He's gonna have to get used to how much time and space he has and how to take away time and space defensively. The partner can help somewhat but he needs 5v5 reps ... along with video and on-ice coaching. He'll get there. The Blues have to stay committed to figuring out how to get the most out of his considerable talent.

I cannot for the life me understand what this organizations allergy is to stay at home defensive defenseman the last 5-6 years.
We insist on swinging for the fences with undersized, puck moving or offensive minded defenseman.
We need defenders. They’re not hard to find nor overly expensive. We should have 1-2 of them at a minimum and pair them with these guys you want to be pushing the play.
Why does no one in the org see this glaring, screaming gap year after year?

haven't they drafted those types fairly recently?WilliamWestcliffe wrote: ↑18 Oct 2025 14:57 pm I cannot for the life me understand what this organizations allergy is to stay at home defensive defenseman the last 5-6 years.

We don't make the playoffs without Suter last year, dude stepped up and played some huge minutes at times during the seasonb-a-a-a-rclay wrote: ↑18 Oct 2025 13:58 pmI know you are joking about Robinson (coach not player) but it was only a few years ago that people here were wanting the Blues to sign a 50 year old Jaromir Jagr. Yeah we do. Didn't you see Middleton following Schenn & Neighbours around in game 1?
He'd make the 4th line more like a 4th line than Texier's pussfootin butt.

Re: Practice Lines (10/17)
Missed my point totally. We could use a physical presence ... Lucic is not who you think he is. He is not the 35 year old version of himself that last played hockey 2 years ago. And Suter isn't the guy who helped the Blues make the playoffs. He's the guy who was replaced by Tucker in the playoffs.Mr.Snuggleupagus wrote: ↑18 Oct 2025 16:55 pmYeah we do. That's what happens to non-elite players when they hit their late 30s and 40s.

Re: Practice Lines (10/17)
I wouldn't say pining but the 3rd pairing absolutely needs a vet dman who can play either side so Tucker and Mailloux can take some nights off.
They need someone who is responsible and can help bail them out when need be.
He wouldn't be the first choice, but he wouldn't be hard to get back and would't cost much of anything in the terms of assets.
Re: Practice Lines (10/17)
This is the position that Army has chosen to leave to the system to fill. Bottom pairing D. Signed vets and sent rookies down at forward. No extremes in age. 21-33 y/o. Avg age 27.TheJackBurton wrote: ↑18 Oct 2025 23:25 pmI wouldn't say pining but the 3rd pairing absolutely needs a vet dman who can play either side so Tucker and Mailloux can take some nights off.
