Auburn football loses a captain and maybe its mind

Post by jcgmoi »

Auburn has dismissed one of its captains, a senior, for failing to meet the program's "expectations and standards," per coach Hugh Freeze.

That can't be good for a team, especially one that's struggling, can it? The guy wasn't playing much or very well with just nine yards last week but he was still a captain. I suppose he could have been a whiner or prima donna and players are glad to see him go but that doesn't seem likely.

Then there's this tweet where someone using the handle TheGhostOfBobbyLowder urges the Auburn AD to sue the SEC for transparency in regards to questionable officiating this year. The tweet goes on for a while, claiming Freeze quit on the team at halftime Saturday, the SEC protects its elite, blah blah blah.

I'm guessing a lot of Auburn fans read that and nod their heads. Life isn't good on the Plains nowadays. The crowd this week might be surly and waiting for any chance to turn on their team.

I don't know if Mizzou will win this weekend.

What I do know is that Hugh Freeze is having a lot harder time of it since everyone can pay players.

The stadium atmosphere was totally different in the second half vs Georgia, and I got to believe it will carry forward and not be much better this Saturday.

according to the PFF guys AU has the second worst secondary in Power 4 FB. Plus one of the best run defenses as they shut down a good GA and Aggies running game. So Will the Woefully bad Kirby Moore see the obvious and attack their weakest part of will they run into the teeth of their D? Bama figured it out against MU to throw to rb's leaking out of backfield and having money Ty Simpson on key downs.

Also pointed out that after KU game Beau has only a 58 qb rating which is awful despite having the great % game against Umass. SEC podcast said how scared Beau was if his primary was covered and you could see it in replay. He would look one way and then scramble around taking his eyes away from downfield. Simpson with as many starts as Beau would keep looking and find open targets even if he had to take a huge shot from a charging defender or when he would roll away from pressure.

So Kirby has also been exposed as a QB coach as he had two weeks to coach up Beau on what he didn't do right and blew it. There were at least 3 open receivers that if he had seen them would have resulted in TD's or very long gains. is why you had frustrated receivers jumping up and down waving their arms. Don't criticize them, that's on Beau.

lets see how Kirby does this game and how he comes out attacking. To me it's time for the Chase Daniels offense, come out throwing short easy passes to set up the run game and then pound it down their throats which would give Beau more confidence in his throwing and GO DOWNFIELD. They have talent but not a lot of depth on DL plus when things don't go there way you can see them give up the fight like they did against GA last week.

As always these are JMHO and we shall see how they do in their first road game of year in very tough place to play. This senior RB was injured and had expressed publicly that he wanted to RS and then transfer as program was not going anywhere. He is Captain and outstanding RB so shows you when you lose one of your leaders rest of team is probably not enthusiastic about state of things.

The Aggies had 207 yards rushing against Auburn.

Georgia averages 85 less yards rushing than Mizzou.

Yeah the team might work up an us-against-the-world attitude or they might come out looking to get back on the bus.

Another factor is that Freeze is coaching for his job at best and a dead man walking otherwise.

They can't be worse than Tennessee or Arkansas. Take those PFF ratings for what they're worth, a bunch of stringers working through film and going yep or nope. Not worthless but not gospel either.

heard interesting conversation Monday on Pawwlll's show when a AU fan called in and said that since Freeze was diagnosed with prostate cancer in spring he seems different in public appearances. Paul agreed saying he isn't nearly as feisty and looks tired all the time when you see him. Seems to be not as aggressive in confronting referees or his own players when doing badly.

don't know how true this all is but interesting side note. havn't seen any reports of him being treated or truly anything about this. But he was criticized by talking heads for taking more time off this summer rather than recruiting as intensely as usual and playing a lot of golf. who knows.

Just like old Bad Suit Billy Self. Now that everyone can cheat, Billy has lost his edge. Playing for kansas in the Big 12 ain’t so hot. You get ranked 19th to start the year and you’re just not so special.

To me it's time for the Chase Daniels offense, . . .
I’m afraid to ask who has the worst secondary and what metric is used, most passing yards, least interceptions?

And please, no more Chase Daniels!

To my knowledge, a “Chase Daniels” never played for Mizzou football. If you know different, please clue me in.
