Throwing Pribula under the bus ???

Marquis Johnson, WR wearing number 2 for those who may not know, is not the kind of teammate I would want on my team. We all know what it means to throw someone under the bus....blaming someone else in an attempt to save your own butt from ridicule or worse.

When a team is winning, many mistakes can be overlooked....it's easy not to throw someone under the bus when you get a W. But when you suffer a tough loss, you might be tempted to point your finger at someone else, but the whole concept of "team" means you can't do it. For example, rarely do you see a HC blame a particular player after a tough loss, they often say I or we didn't do a good enough job getting our team prepared, or we didn't coach good enough, etc....

The same is true on the field, sometimes a player will get upset if he was wide open and didn't get the ball. But, by the time they huddle up again the "slight" is resolved and we often see the player get a few more looks later on. Sometimes the QB gets upset at a player for running a poor route, or not lining up correctly, or dropping a pass. Often you hear the QB say in post-game comments I didn't play good enough, even if he played pretty good.

At least three times, possibly four, (I'm hoping to re-watch the game) #2 threw a literal conniption fit on the field when he wasn't targeted and/or Pribula threw a bad ball his way. I guess the emotion of the game can get to ya once, but twice, three times, maybe four...leaving you yelling and screaming at your own QB and throwing your hands up in the air and jumping up and down like a (bleep). For guy who's not contributing a whole lot this year, (outside of the SC win) throwing your QB "under the bus" during the game is not the way to get more looks.

I would need to re-watch the game, but on Pribula's two INT wherein he appears to of locked on a receiver running a seam route, the ball was already in the air before Johnson's defender left him to pursue towards where the ball was thrown. Johnson is wide open on the sideline both times, but the decision to throw had already been made by Pribula and on the game ender anyways the ball was already in the air. And Pribula's throw towards him on the opposite sideline, when 'Bama almost intercepted the ball again, was obviously thrown too high but Johnson had barely hit the ground before he started his histrionics throwing his arms in the air and mean-mugging Pribula.

There's no place for that sort of reaction on the filed directed at another teammate, and I hope Drink addresses it in the locker room....if Johnson is a needed talent on the team, given the loss of talent at that position last year, then he better grow up and start acting like a team player. Who knows, he might get a few more targets and start to get some positive attention from NFL scouts. Clearly, he's not getting attention from Pribula on the field....

Johnson wants to win and yesterday Mizzou should have won. While I agree, it serves no purpose to blame a team mate in the moment, it is hard to control your emotion when that one player is playing poorly. You see HC do the same thing when they berate players on the sideline. It is a high energy, high emotion game.

He was overly dramatic, yes. Funny enough, he was the one quoted in the Post after the first game about how great it was that none of the WRs were complaining on the sideline after drives. It was a bad look.
That being said, Beau was atrocious yesterday. Johnson's frustration would have started early, he was the one open 20 yards behind the entire Tide D on third down when Beau missed the throw so bad that the ref felt compelled to get on the PA system to announce why the throw wasn't intentional grounding. Score there and the funk that the team and stadium was in after Zion Young singlehandedly allowed Bama to tie the game at 7 is over.

Marquis Johnson was open multiple times yesterday and didn’t get the ball. On the second drive he was wide open on third down and pribula tried hitting him and threw it out of bounds by 20ft. The last play he was wide open as well. Instead, Pribula threw a pick.
How can you not show emotion? They went from a play that could have gotten them in FG range to a pick, game over. The getting upset is compelled warranted. It was not a typical diva WR stuff. He was (upset) bc they lost a game they easily could have won. M

The QB was clearly the weakest link on the field yesterday. Wasn’t even close.

You can see Johnson’s and Coleman’s frustrations growing by the week. It matches the fans. It’s been weeks since they’ve taken shots down the field. As soon as there is the least little bit of pressure, Pribula leaves the pocket and starts to improvise, often reducing his options and missing open receivers. The bootleg pass has become predictable, coming at least once a series. On Mizzou’s first TD, Johnson was running wide open down the seam, but Pribula went to the more difficult target, Norfleet. Not only did Norfleet make a great catch, saving Pribula, but then by sheer effort turned it into a TD.

Now, Pribula was awesome running the ball yesterday. That Bama defender is STILL looking for his jock. However, he’s the QB and not a running back. Gone are the days you can destroy Alabama throwing 2 passes (love you, Terry McMillian). You have to be able to toss the rock and as well as pound it. Drinkwitz came to MU with the rep of being a QB whisperer. It’s time we started to see it.

We lost! This is not little league soccer where everyone gets a trophy. There are winner and losers. If Missouri wants to win championships it need the talent to win games like this. We had better talent that Bama in most positions and should have won.

And we proved that a rematch in Atlanta is winnable, and Drink will hoist the trophy the SEC is giving out.

Chase had confidence in himself as did the coaching staff. This staff AND Beau seem to be losing confidence. They need to be more aggressive not less. Suffer through some struggles while the defense pulls you through.

The "staff' did not make the correct evaluation of what Prib was capable of on that day.

They asked him to do what he wasn't going to get done Saturday.

Missouri could well have won that game but not the way it was called.
