HockeyWriters: Bolduc / Mailloux. Read at your own risk

Post by a smell of green grass »

Read at your own risk. It's quite upsetting to me as a Blues fan.

Looks like Army OVERESTIMATED Mailloux, and UNDERESTIMATED Bolduc.

Thanks, Army.

I like how people are trying to put value on a trade weeks after it was made.

We won’t know who won this for years.

It's very important to remember WHY Army traded Bolduc for Mailloux.

It was NOT because:
- Bolduc was one of our weaker wingers and the Blues had surplus.

It was because:
- Montreal saw the talent of Bolduc more than the Blues did.
- The Blues HAVE NO OPPORTUNITY to draft an elite RHD because they draft >15
- The Blues drafted Jiricek the in 2024, and that "elite RHD" is 25,000 Big Macs away from even having a chance to make it in the NHL.
- The Blues chose to take a raffle chance on an elite RHD (Mailloux)

So when the Blues pull off another win streak in March to spoil their draft position. They WILL BE ON NATIONAL TV a lot this March as a result. Enjoy it well. It's because of Army's March that lost us Bolduc.

If Army had run the shop LIKE EVERY OTHER GM, our roster would have BOLDUC and BUIUM right now!!!! Instead, we get to watch Montreal fans celebrate, and Jiricek on the weigh scale.

Probably could've acquired Mailloux for Texier & a 3rd.

I already have the sand clock running for Jiricek to gain 25 lbs. I'm using the old Perunovich sand clock.
I'll need to buy a another one to now watch Mailloux.

WAIT. WAIT. WAIT. Blues fans.

Just don't watch what is happening in Montreal. Those fans are NOT HAVING TO WAIT. 3 games in they know they got a great one.

This part just [fork]ing kills me…
With stats like that though, it kind of makes one wonder why the Blues traded him, willingly (right?), to the Canadiens for an unproven talent in Logan Mailloux. Even taking into account their need for young defensemen, Mailloux’s issues on defense have been well-documented. While the potential is there, he’s not necessarily even a top-six defenseman. He certainly can be, but he is a lot to prove. For him they gave up a forward in the midst of establishing himself as an everyday NHLer, who’s now in the process of showing he’s something significantly more.

Pretty sure even Reed Low had a 3 game stretch where he played better than the top players in the league.
Too easy for clickbait when the season is half a week old.

Armstrong fell flat on his face with this proverbial "hockey trade"...that he loves to claim "works out well for both teams".

You know, I wasn’t a big fan of this deal because I thought Bolduc has scoring skills and grit which are always a good asset in hockey. But I can understand why Army made the deal, since we needed defense.

So, I’ll wait and see if Mailloux fills the bill or not.

In the meantime, however, why don’t you give this issue a rest for a while. We all know your opinion by now.

The Blues did know what they had with him. The coaching staff gave their input to management on him after seeing how he had developed the past couple of seasons.

Bolduc had the luxury of having a full season of NHL development whereas Mailloux is doing this season what Bolduc did last season.

I don’t know why people are putting up comparisons and value on a trade so early after it was made. It literally makes zero sense.

There’s a million what ifs that could occur for either team at any point in time. May as well just wait and see what happens and see who wins it in the long term.

But again, that doesn’t fit the Army hating agenda.

Vince Dunn, Mikkola, Walman all had some rough games their first NHL season as well. Tucker is no different this year and he has several games expierence. Everyone with an oz of hockey knowledge knew in the immediate future that this was a Habs win. Let’s revisit this in 3-4 years when Mailloux is 25-26

Watch out when Bolduc starts getting P.P. time with Montreal.

PS I still believe Armstrong was working on Kyrou for a bigger deal and Bolduc for Mailloux morphed out of it (last minute)....and I was, a bit (at least), in shock, the day the trade was made in trying to figure out why Bolduc??; even when everyone was saying it was from a position of strength, blah, blah, blah; because the return didn't seem good enough.

My goal is to make sure that fans are aware that we didn't trade Bolduc for Mailloux in isolation. That trade happened because "we needed defense" as you say, and that is the heart of the problem. Why did we need defense? Why are we in such lousy shape in 2025 on that issue when Pietrangelo left 5+ years ago.

Newsflash, Blues fans:
If Mailloux doesn't solve the problem, in 2026 we will still NEED DEFENSE, and Army has no way to acquire it, and no scouting department that could find it if it hit them in the rear end.

When is everyone going to realize that our resident troll, with a number of accounts, has no substance and is only looking for clicks? Glad I have him on ignore and only see his responses when someone quotes him. DON'T DO THAT! :x :x :x

That just doesn't make a lot of sense.

Before the incident he was projected a top 15-20 talent.

He has to learn to play at the NHL level, once he does that he'll be more valuable than Bolduc.

Bolduc is likely a 20-25 45-50 point winger most years. 30 goals is likely his high mark, but likely between 15-20 most years.

I still have no issue whatsoever giving that up.
