Re: Bloom does have some trade chips at catcher
Let’s hope he chooses the right chips to trade and doesn’t trade the good catcher and keep the catchers that end up sucking
Re: Bloom does have some trade chips at catcher
Who has the higher trade value, Pages or Crooks? My guess, Crooks at 24 over Pages at 27. Pages MLB experience and reputation handling pitchers may be appealing to some potential trade partners.
Re: Bloom does have some trade chips at catcher
Would teams needing a catcher really see IH filling that position. He obviously did not this year.
Obviously his hitting potential is a big plus but if I need a catcher not sure it’s him.

Re: Bloom does have some trade chips at catcher
This whole reputation of handling pitchers is so stupid, it means he was better than Herrera and Pozo (big freaking deal) and the dude is terrible at blocking balls in dirt, his over the top facial expressions are tiresome too

Re: Bloom does have some trade chips at catcher
Pages is clearly not the long term solution nor is Pozo. Those two are the most likely to be traded in my opinion. Bloom cannot trade Crooks or Bernal until they have a face off between the two under similar conditions for at least half a season. This leaves Herrera on the outside looking in eventually. I would let Herrera have a go at it until the all star break as the lead catcher with crooks as backup. Bernal at Memphis. By that point he is either going to
1. Excel above all expectations. takes a hold of the helm at catcher for at least the next few years making a Crooks expendable once Bernal is ready.
2. Get injured, or suck bad enough to understand for that big payday he wants down the road, he should focus on the one thing he does well, which is hit. Be the DH, 1st Base or the outfield.
Then lineup Crooks as the lead, promote Bernal and let them show their stuff in a healthy competition. They will both have options left at end of the season. Let the lockout happen. Go from there. Bernal gets some exposure while still young and if need be goes back to AAA to work on stuff having had a little time to see what it's like. Crooks starts blending into a MLB role.
The lockout if prolonged could waste away a lot of precious development time. Before you know it guys are going to be in their late to mid 20's and decisions need made. It cannot hurt Bernal to get some exposure at the least. Keep his service time and at bats just below the scrubbing of rookie status. Maybe he just out plays Herrera and Crooks and no harm no foul he just stays.
Worst case there other guys in the pipeline like Rainel Rodriguez that may yet show something. Good to have options at least at one position.

Which current catcher would hold the most value on the trade market. I would rather see the Cards stick with Crooks. LHH catchers are not all that common.

Took a great mind to figure out that the Cards have some good catching prospects. I mean it's just been mentioned a few thousand times in past few months.

The topic is regarding potential "trade chips", dip.HorseTrader wrote: ↑10 Oct 2025 07:26 am

Everyone on the team is a potential trade chip, you dip. My comment, which you must not understand was that you are just bringing up the same old crud. over and over, hey that's a new name for , the stuck record dips...Shady wrote: ↑10 Oct 2025 10:11 amThe topic is regarding potential "trade chips", dip.HorseTrader wrote: ↑10 Oct 2025 07:26 am

Re: Bloom does have some trade chips at catcher
Let me simplify the OP topic for you. So how would you handle the current catcher situation? Who stays, who do you try to use a a trade chip/chips in the off season? No article or past discussion involved. Just your personal opinion.HorseTrader wrote: ↑10 Oct 2025 15:58 pmEveryone on the team is a potential trade chip, you dip. Re: Bloom does have some trade chips at catcher
There is no one on this team they cannot trade. Good baseball men can evaluate their talent andif they believe they are getting better talent at a key position like starting pitcher than they should trade them. Tampa traded Lib for Arozarena because they could evaluate their talent and others. They won that trade.StlMike1969 wrote: ↑09 Oct 2025 13:53 pmBloom cannot trade Crooks or Bernal until they have a face off between the two under similar conditions for at least half a season.
