Bloom will listen to interest for Donovan and Noot
According to Derrick Goold in his weekly chat .
Both players have two years remaining so Bloom knows whatever their value is , it certainly would bring more in return than if they are kept for 2026 and then shopped with just one year remaining.
Both are left handed bats and Cards have ample left sided guys. In addition , Bloom knows he has JJ Wetherholt knocking on the door and could be the 2nd baseman in Bloom's rebuild plans.
The GM meetings are set for November in Las Vegas. Sure there will be some rumors coming out from that conclave though trades usually don't come til the Winter Meeting .. that is Dec. 7-8 in Orlando Disney

Re: Bloom will listen to interest for Donovan and Noot
It'll be strange if Bloom actually leaves his hotel suite and interacts with other POBOs/GMs. Johnny bow ties always hid in his with Girsch and Flores. Very awkward and strange.
Re: Bloom will listen to interest for Donovan and Noot
Possibly Bloom will have Rob Cerfolio with him and be introducing our new Asst. GM to the other teams that may not know him yet. Of course Guardians sure know 'Cerf' very well.JuanAgosto wrote: ↑07 Oct 2025 22:31 pm It'll be strange if Bloom actually leaves his hotel suite and interacts with other POBOs/GMs. Johnny bow ties always hid in his with Girsch and Flores. Would be a welcomed change to actually think ahead. He seems to think there is more value the more controlled years the new team has. Weird. That’s exactly what I said about trading helsleynand fedde last offseason.
If the cardinals are not going to extend a 30yr old Donovan, then they have a responsibility to trade him after his career best Sean. His value will never be higher than it is right now. Either extend him or trade him now. I don’t think bloom wants to extend a guy like Donovan who will be 30 before he becomes a FA

Re: Bloom will listen to interest for Donovan and Noot
Can we even imagine a universe where Nootbaar is still a Cardinal next spring?
Re: Bloom will listen to interest for Donovan and Noot
One wonders if we will ever have anyone worth extending in the future at this point. Have we become the pirates? There’s not much of anybody who becomes a free agent before 30 and those who do like Soto require $400 million contract contracts.woofy25 wrote: ↑07 Oct 2025 22:48 pm Would be a welcomed change to actually think ahead. Even simple introductions are an improvement over Mo's private slumber parties. What the heck were those guys doing? Not laying any groundwork for deals. Probably pigging out on pizza while watching Hallmark movies.ramfandan wrote: ↑07 Oct 2025 22:37 pmPossibly Bloom will have Rob Cerfolio with him and be introducing our new Asst. He probably will listen on most.

Dear Mr. Bloom,
I would like to offer to drive Lars Nootbaar to the airport.
Sincerely,
sdaltons

If the cardinals were close to real contention, and think Donovan can be a 115-120 OPS+ hitter from 30-34, then they should extend him. If not, they shouldn’t. His versatility defensively will likely erode over that time as well, probably forcing him to play LF or 3B, lowering is value a bit. Donovan is not a centerpiece to build an organization around. If they had those guys in place, then extending Donovan makes a whole lot more senseCarp4Cy wrote: ↑07 Oct 2025 23:02 pmOne wonders if we will ever have anyone worth extending in the future at this point. Unfortunately, they are not close to contention, so the likely play is to try getting prospects that will help them get to contention. Idk. It’s a tough decision bc I’m not sure really how much of a return they’d get for him

Cards have no responsibility to trade Donovan if they aren't going to extend him...it's wise to move him, but not a responsibility to Donnywoofy25 wrote: ↑07 Oct 2025 22:48 pm Would be a welcomed change to actually think ahead. I didn’t say they have a responsibility to Donovan, rather to the organization.scoutyjones2 wrote: ↑08 Oct 2025 07:35 amCards have no responsibility to trade Donovan if they aren't going to extend him...it's wise to move him, but not a responsibility to Donnywoofy25 wrote: ↑07 Oct 2025 22:48 pm Would be a welcomed change to actually think ahead. Re: Bloom will listen to interest for Donovan and Noot
If I can remember allof this from various threads and websites. Bloom will or should trade Arenado, Gray, willie, Noot, Walker, Gorman, Donovan, one plae said Ivan if they think Crooks is ready, Pozo, JoJo, Scott, Burly, Pallante, and then a few non tenders. If Chaim does all of that, 2026 will truly be a Who's on 1st year

Re: Bloom will listen to interest for Donovan and Noot
As I see it, the Cards will build around Winn, Wetherholt, and Herrera. Although Gorman is 25 and Walker only 23, their current low return value now versus their potential will keep them on the roster. Neither one one should be penciled in as sure starters. They will need to compete for starting jobs. ST and how they start the season may determine where they end up next season. Victor Scott is very valuable defensively, but not sure the Cards can carry his weak bat. The OF really needs more thump. Josh Baez and Chase Davis are perhaps their best OF prospects, but they may need more seasoning. It will be interesting to see what Bloom does to improve the OF. The biggest challenge will come to rebuilding the pitching staff. If the Cards trade Gray, the only other sure starters are Lib and McGreevy. None the less , there is a lot of work to be done before next season.

Donovan’s a leader both on and off the field. Keep him.
