BDWJr willing to eat money in trades.........
.....for a better return.
Katie Woo of The Athletic reports that the ownership will now be more willing to eat money in trades, in order to extract greater returns.
That reporting aligns with comments this week from Chaim Bloom, the new president of baseball operations. “As far as cash being a lever on the trade front, that should never be off the table,” he said, per Woo. “Obviously, you’d prefer not to do that, but you could end up in a situation where adding cash to make a preferred deal work just makes sense.”
Obviously refers to NADO & S. Gray, possibly but less likely WillyC.

His loyalty to Mo never made sense to me because Bill likes money and Mo and his horrible signings cost him untold millions and continues to do so

Are you saying the better return of young players as a result of using money to sweeten a deal isn’t using money on the roster? I would argue it might be the smartest money.dugoutrex wrote: ↑03 Oct 2025 12:19 pmbut ... that is money that will not be put back into the rosterrockondlouie wrote: ↑03 Oct 2025 12:13 pm .....for a better return.

no doubt - just pointing out the obvious for the simps on here, if we eat 30 million on Gray and Nado the rest of our payroll will be under 90 million imoSouthern Illinois wrote: ↑03 Oct 2025 12:24 pmAre you saying the better return of young players as a result of using money to sweeten a deal isn’t using money on the roster? Fredo (aka: BDWIII) tried to intimate at the press conference that any money saved dealing high priced players would be re-invested in the roster, I don't believe a word he say;s.
This is Missouri Fredo, Show Me.

I don't trust the Dewitt's to re-invest more than a minimal amount of any salary relief they get if NADO and/or Gray are dealt (re: $2M in 2025 for P. Maton type moves).

If the DeWitt's are keeping Oli because they don't want to eat his (small) salary, why should we believe they'll give up money to move a player?bccardsfan wrote: ↑03 Oct 2025 12:22 pmI will believe this when I see it......rockondlouie wrote: ↑03 Oct 2025 12:13 pm .....for a better return.

Some truth to that. Then again why waste a costly manager on a team that you know isnt going anywhere, govman wrote: ↑03 Oct 2025 15:40 pmIf the DeWitt's are keeping Oli because they don't want to eat his (small) salary, why should we believe they'll give up money to move a player?bccardsfan wrote: ↑03 Oct 2025 12:22 pmI will believe this when I see it......rockondlouie wrote: ↑03 Oct 2025 12:13 pm .....for a better return.

To change the emphasis on good clean fundamental baseball, even in losing seasons, and the change the culture of the team. Guys have a good game and are on the pine the next... all the head scratching moves....RichieRichSTL wrote: ↑03 Oct 2025 18:16 pmSome truth to that. ".....for a better return."
That is key.
Money/dry powder is there so just have to possess the will to spend. Identifying "better return" is key as they have lacked the skill to identify such players.

If the amounts are significant enough where the return goes from a low-A no-name guy with injuries and an attitude problem to a guy banging on the door from AA/AAA, I’d at least feel better about it.dugoutrex wrote: ↑03 Oct 2025 12:19 pmbut ... that is money that will not be put back into the rosterrockondlouie wrote: ↑03 Oct 2025 12:13 pm .....for a better return.
