Good morning.

Ok teams are now eliminated. We have seen the best of baseball. You saw us all year.

How far are we from a post season appearance.

Without relying on a black swan series 2-3 years imo. Of course I’m guessing like we all are but under the premise they won’t be spending a lot trading current resources for potentially better young controlled ones and how they seem to want to allocate their money.

2-3 years best case.

Yea. 2-3 based on eye test. How does the hitting compare to us, the individual at bats. Then the strategy game, bunts, stolen bases.

In truth, a run here or there per game, and we would have another conversation.

With this park and how this org has been successful run prevention should be the theme. I also think they should take the DH seriously. Either signing one or drafting and/or trading for one. Someone who is absolutely useless in the field but has a bat from the heavens. They exist and since they can’t perform in the field are obtainable.

How close to that DH spot does Herrera get. 20 ish home runs. Is he absolutely useless in left.

Or does it really need to be from outside the organization. Part of the reset.

Ok. That’s ten years to be the best. That’s long. To make the playoffs- like snow forecasts, 2-4 or 3-5 inches, I mean years.

Could be 1-2 years if they actually spend.

And we are talking 2 bats of 20 ish homers and .280 ish ave; at least one starter, a six innings ace, if they exist.

Then”weakest” of the playoff teams were Boston and Cincinnati . Cleveland was superior to the Cardinals in defense and pitching - both better starters and a usually solid bullpen. But They lacked the hitters to go far in the playoffs

So in my opinion, the cardinals - 2025 version - are much closer to Boston and CInci. If they can’t pick up a solid middle-of-the-order bat, and another veteran starter for 2026, they may improve to that level next season

However, What continually amazes me is the lack of baseball acumen that many of their prospects show in the field and on the bases. Make sure we have a solid team on the field, and you’ll also see ancillary improvements from the pitching staff

Just a few years if the FO does not go totally cheap.

Looking at the teams that made the wild card this year, some of them are not all that impressive.

Cleveland: they have one superstar - Ramirez - and a good young pitching staff led by Bibee, Williams, and Cecconi.
Detroit: they have one of the best pitchers in the game - Skubal - and two young sluggers - Carpenter and Torkelson.
Cincinnati: Good young starting pitching, but still not dominant. Lineup is inconsistent. Bullpen is weak.
Boston: they have a decent lineup, and a great pitcher in Crochet. The rest not so great.

IMO the Cardinals could be as good if not better than the level of these teams in 2 years, if Bloom makes some smart moves, and Bill opens the wallet just a bit.

Your third paragraph. Lack of baseball acumen. Isn’t that hard to teach. You either have it or you don’t I’d think.

2028 if most of ‘27 is played.

2029 if 2027 is lost to lockout.

And that’s just playoffs, not WS, right. At that point, anything could happen.
