"There were certainly reasons why we had to make that decision. I don't think the public forum is the right place for it. I do feel like I get beaten up for it. Legally, I was advised that as an employer, there is only so much that can be said. I don't want to beat around the bush. I know we had to make a decision. I believe it was the right decision. People can argue that they don't think it was. However, I'm sure that someday more of this will come to light. That having been said, though I disagreed with some of TLR's moves, including batting the pitcher 8th, I loved his businesslike approach in the dugout during games. He always had his game face on, and so did his players. Pujols, Edmonds, Rolen, Molina, Carpenter were all business during games. Tony got criticized for winding his players too tight. I'd rather have that than Club Marmol, where anything goes in the dugout and on the field during games. No wonder players apparently like him.

Screaming and demeaning doesn't seem like a legal reason to have to fire someone. Depending on how bad it was, it certainly could've been grounds for firing and something they thought they had to do for the sake on the organization. I'm just not sure how it would be a legal issue.
Oh and thanks so much for providing info. Really appreciate it.
Missouri follows the Employment-At-Will doctrine. This means that both the employer and employee can terminate the employment relationship at any time and for any reason, as long as there is:
No employment contract being broken
No discrimination under civil rights laws (based on race, color, age, national origin, religion, ancestry, sex, or physical/mental disability)
No merit laws apply, or
The state’s limited public policy exception does not apply.

Its a long season. Guys need to stay loose. Having fun during a hard fought game isn't a terrible thing. What irked me this season was seeing the laughing, joking, and nonsense while playing unfocused and uninspired baseball.Goldfan wrote: ↑02 Oct 2025 15:05 pmCan you imagine that happening under TLR….JaseMan wrote: ↑02 Oct 2025 11:29 amI understand the keeping the players loose aspect, because its a long season. When you are clueless in the art of running the bases, fans are laughing at you.
Laughing when your getting your as^ handed to you in a game and SO by the bushel shows zip manager leadership. Yet this ownership believes that is a good thing.

The ownership wants a cheap season. Oli makes that more possible. I wouldn't be surprised if that pud works for less than minimum wage. He probably accepts free hotdogs and cotton candy as payment.
Re: Mo's comment on Shildt
Shildt didn't toe the line that Mo and "his team" expected from the manager position. I find it interesting how Mo doubles down on his comments about Marmol and the talent he inherited by his own hand. I'm so ready to turn the page on Mo and his team running this franchise!
