Longshot of the week: RB Ahmad Hardy, Missouri (+3000)
Ahmad Hardy may not be a Heisman Trophy longshot much longer, so now (and through Missouri's bye week) might be the last chance to find value in jumping on his bandwagon. That's because his next outing comes against Alabama, a prime spot to become a household name with another one of his monster rushing efforts. . . . Hardy leads the SEC in carries (103) and paces the nation in yards (730) and touchdowns (nine). If he keeps this up in conference play, he will be deservedly recognized as one of the best players in the sport.

If Mizzou can get a win at home against Alabama, about a 50/50 shot in my view, and Hardy has a good game my guess is he’ll bolt up to top 5 in the Heisman race.

FWIW, both Pribula and Hardy are now listed at +3000. Seems to me there is a huge bias toward QBs vs. RBs these days.

That's because of the number of QB who have won the award these days.

Although ever since Berwanger won the first one in 1935, a RB has won in every year ending in 5.

So, I do have some good odds in my favor.

Heisman is simply a PR contest and not about what happens on the field. The winner is the team that spends the most and who gets the most media attention. Braille for TH has been hands down the best WR in the country yet Smith is on the list and he is nowhere to be found. Ohio State promised Smith they will spend on his Heisman campaign.

The list of Heisman winners in the 60+ years since 1963, other than a few popularity picks who went nowhere, is quite impressive in relation to NFL success.
I'm not sure there has been a better period for great Heisman RBs than 1976 through 1982: Dorsett, Earl Campbell, Billy Sims, Charles White, Marcus Allen, and Herschel Walker. Then it resumed in 1985 with Bo Jackson and 1988 with the greatest of all -- Barry Sanders.
