I recall that "SIU LAW" was always a pretty good guy, welcome backSIU LAW wrote: ↑01 Oct 2025 18:16 pm Frankly, both of them need to be playing consistently to keep developing. Both in the AHL until injury occurs, with a serviceable but cheap experienced 7th would be best. Yes, I understand Kessel may have a waivers issue. Kessel Is just going to stagnate in sitting in the press box.
Should Kessel be the 7th D-man?

Due to injuries and simply wanting a different look, the #7 guy typically plays way more than 12 games a year.moose-and-squirrel wrote: ↑02 Oct 2025 09:13 am how good do ya need to be to sit in the press box 70+ games?
Re: Should Kessel be the 7th D-man?
Thoughts on the ability to move Faulk to open things up a bit for both of these guys? It might be a bit risky. I thought Broberg-Mailloux looked like a good potential second pairing.
Re: Should Kessel be the 7th D-man?
That's something to worry about WELL down the road. Mailloux isn't close to being ready for 20+ minutes a night. He definitely looks like he could get there eventually; but he's at least a year away from it. Lots to iron out in his defensive play.

I don't think they're going to move Faulk until they are sure he's fallen off the cliff.
He is the top 4 dman / top 6 forward in most need of an upgrade though, hopefully they decide they want to win more than keep a guy they like, sooner rather than later.

Re: Should Kessel be the 7th D-man?
With PP and PK time Mailloux will likely be north of 20 ATOI right away
Re: Should Kessel be the 7th D-man?
I really hope they can advance that. Faulk is still a very good D, despite his position of abuse here. I feel Faulk with term gets us a lot more in trade than Faulk as a half season rental. We get lucky and get a first and long shot prospect. That is a lot of "hope and maybe", but it feels like there is a solid line that could happen. I just feel Faulk middle of next season is worth a second at best.
Re: Should Kessel be the 7th D-man?
I don't see Mailloux getting any PK time. He's literally the last option for it at the moment. That might change over the course of the year, but right now we have five better options to roll out there(6 if you include Kessel).Harry S Deals wrote: ↑02 Oct 2025 11:16 amWith PP and PK time Mailloux will likely be north of 20 ATOI right away
It's also going to be a battle for him to get any PP time. Fowler's not going anywhere on the top unit. Faulk is beatable on the 2nd unit; but you've also got Broberg that's deserving of some minutes there. The PP is the first area of special teams that Mailloux will make an appearance on, but it isn't likely to happen any time soon and it will likely be tied to his defensive progression. Until Mailloux can handle 18 minutes a night of even strength defensive play; I don't expect him to get any special teams time. And he isn't on that level as of today.

I am 100% on board there. I feel offensively Mailloux looks better than Faulk already. And a lot of fan grumbling is Faulk getting beat or not fast enough getting back on the PP. Mailloux might be the better second PP option out of the gate.Harry S Deals wrote: ↑02 Oct 2025 11:37 amI think Blues fans are going to be a little bit surprised at where Mailloux is alreadykimzey59 wrote: ↑02 Oct 2025 11:23 amI don't see Mailloux getting any PK time. The Blues are going to be conservative but the cream will rise to the top. This kid will quickly become a fan favorite on Clark St. Hes fast, big, hits, fights can score. Im not saying hes pushing Faulk out of a job but Monty will go with Monty's best options at some point soondr0zombie wrote: ↑02 Oct 2025 11:40 amI am 100% on board there. Re: Should Kessel be the 7th D-man?
Heck no. If anything, I’d want to add one more NHL caliber d-man. Like a #6-8 caliber guy as our D depth is pretty thin as it is and I’m not sure either Kessel or Skinner are good enough to hold down the #7 job.
I wouldn’t be in favor of trading Faulk until Mailloux shows he’s capable of taking the 2RD spot. As of today, he’s still a bit of a question mark on the 3RD spot. I wouldn’t be looking to trade Faulk anytime soon at all.
Re: Should Kessel be the 7th D-man?
I'm expecting him and his shot to get some pp time once he establishes this to his boss. Here's to sooner than later.Harry S Deals wrote: ↑02 Oct 2025 11:46 amThe Blues are going to be conservative but the cream will rise to the top. Re: Should Kessel be the 7th D-man?
There were a few guys that spent camp on PTO's with other teams. They might have their eye on one of them too. I was surprised they didn't bring in a 7D candidate on PTO.
Re: Should Kessel be the 7th D-man?
I don't mean to start a panic; but Perunovich is on waivers today.
Everybody hold your breath.
