Tells you one of two things. Both bad. Either Bloom is as stupid as Mo, or he has no say. Cards don’t care under current ownership. Be prepared for 9 pathetic batters and a pitching staff that belong in A.
Exactly. There is no way a competent POBO could look at the lack of fundamentals on this team and decide the manager stays. So I'm guessing he had no say in the matter. Not good.

There's a 3rd option, which is that you are overestimating how big of a deal it is.

No, he's correct. It's a big deal. If these same coaches are in charge next season, it's another wasted year. There isn't a single baseball reason to keep Marmol. The only reason to keep him is fealty to Mo and his legacy. Meaning Mo isn't really going anywhere just yet.

There is a logic to this. Bloom is essentially saying that this is a rebuilding year. He is saying we dont expect to seriously compete. 1) A quality candidate with a track record might not be interested in that. 2) They probably dont want to pay 2 manager salaries during a rebuild. 3) Without a competitive roster, even a top manager would struggle.

Not only does this sound silly but there's also no way you can know it so certainly, and there may in fact be many factors you are either not privy to or not considering.

It's a concession that next year is a year in which they know they will not be competitive. If they extend him, it tells us they see a future with him. The Rams kept Jeff Fischer when they moved to LA, not because they thought he was the best option but because he was the best option for the transition in terms of continuity.

They have another throwaway season where their priority is evaluating who is part of long term plans. Oli knows the team and can guide them through the turmoil. This will give him one more shot to prove himself. They will expect to compete in 2027. If Oli doesnt give a good reason to renew him, they can attract a better quality manager, not one who will take a losing proposition because he is just happy to be employed.

Well at least if he comes back we can expect another season of bad base running and poor fundamentals and he won’t have any pressure for the team to at least play good fundamental baseball or win or improve that’s good job security

I guess Marmol might have blackmail material on BDW, but that's still not a baseball reason.

Seriously, the only reason Marmol stays is BDW paying homage to Mo's legacy. And also to give a big middle finger to the fans.

Which means Bloom's tenure changes nothing. We're still going to have an organization with all the same PR problems. We're still going to have an inept coaching staff. We're still going to have empty seats, underperforming players, bad fundamentals and no coherent direction forward.

You get strangely irrational about this stuff sometimes. I've just never seen that bolded type of sentimentality from billionaires in my life so I don't know how you can be so sure it's THE ONLY EXPLANATION right now.

Far more concerning from today was BDW blatantly lying to everyone about how they haven't discussed payroll yes. That's the clue you're looking for that nothing will change... the same level of outrageous insult to all of our intelligence they've been shoveling for years. There's your contempt for the fans right there, you don't need to do fan fiction with the managerial decisions.

(Oh, I'm (upset))

I agree about the payroll comment. But BDW knows how the fans feel about Marmol. There is, again, not a single baseball reason to keep him. It's also bad business. Firing him would be a popular move that would signal to the fans that the Mo era is over. .

And yet...

Middle finger.

This would have been a great opportunity for Bloom to represent "out with the old, in with the new." But that's not what happened, is it?

I'm tempted to say Strike 1 for Bloom, but perhaps his Strike 1 was taking the job at all if he has no say in who the manager is. We don't know. But it smells like signature cheapness from BDW Jr.

I think you overestimate how unpopular Oli is with the non-CT fanbase. Even on Twitter it seems pretty split, and I'd guess casual fans (the vast majority) don't really care one way or another.

Also it's not bad business, bc they save however many million on paying a 2nd manager next year.

Also there may be baseball reasons such as him being liked by the players. That's why I take issue with your certainty.
