OLine and secondary not that great against UMass

Post by icon »

The OLine had a bad game, allowing 4 sacks against some backups vs. a banged-up UMass. Now 12 sacks allowed in 5 games. Richardson looked bad. I hope Green can be back in time for Bama. And let's face it, Hardy and Roberts are gaining tons of yardage after contact, not because the blocking is all that great.

And yeah, UMass didn't get many yards passing, but they still had receivers running open. And the DLine got only 1 sack vs. a beaten-up UMass team.

If they play like that vs. Bama, they could run up the score, as their receiving corps and QB are elite. Their DLine is banged up, though, and they have to play a pretty tough Vandy team Saturday while the Tigers enjoy a bye. So one key, as usual, will be to run the ball effectively and play keepaway while putting points up. And Meyer may have to make a few FGs.

This will be the first big test. Hopefully, rest and the bye to work out the kinks on the OLine and in the secondary will be helpful.

Spot on assessment. My main concern is our secondary vs Bama. They might expose us in a big way, especially if we can’t get pressure. Give that QB 4 seconds in the pocket consistently and he’ll throw for 400 yards with 4+ TD’s.

Our O Line had a bad game in pass protection and is a bit suspect in that regard, but one nice thing is Bama hasn’t been great getting to the QB. I think our offense has the chance to score a bunch of points in this one.

Might be one of those 42-35 type games.

It looks as if we are going to have to put up with the low self esteem guys strutting their inferiority complex for the next two weeks.

both Bama and dawgs are good but not dominant anymore as is usually the case. Bama's qb is very good and accurate but he doesn't do well when pressured and GA doesn't pressure like they usually do and let him sit back and pick them apart. Which is what he could do at MU. They allow a lot of rushing yards and there secondary is vulnerable as GA had one TD that a true freshman couldn't haul in despite having it right in his hands. Then Smart wasn't as he didn't make the simple obvious decision to kick the FG and tie the score. way his D was playing where they shut down Bama O in second half would have a great chance in OT if it got there.

I see Bama having good success but so will MU which is more balanced. IF they can generate good pressure throughout game it could be really fun.

Now we see why Eli made the very late change at LT as Richardson had a world of trouble with second string DE's from worst program in CFB. Beau still doesn't have a good feel for the pocket and where to go when pressured. But dang, 21 straight? Outstanding.

AS far as SOS MS State is much better than anticipated but then AU has little offense and their supposed Offensive guru coach had poor judgement paying $4MM for a not very good QB, can't run the ball and is unlucky. Vandy is at same level as MU and road game could be extremely competitive. Aggies are good but didn't impress much against a not very good AU team. will be interesting rest of season.

Just say you don’t know anything about sports and yet you STILL waste a significant amount of time piping up on a sports oriented fan forum. Sad.

The PFF grades for the UMass game are in for the OLine. Far from great.

Richardson 55.4 and allowed 2 sacks and 5 pressures.
Giudice 61.8
Tollison 59.2 and not having a good year.
Peagler 57.0 and allowed 1 sack. Maybe Wilson should start?
Trost 66.4 and looks to be the best of the bunch so far.

Hurry back, Cayden Green.

And this tells you a lot about how great the running backs are. The blocking is not all that.

BTW, Davis got a PFF grade of 95.2 running behind the backups on the line. Hardy graded out at 87.6, and Roberts at 72.4.

Okay. I'll say it.

You don't know anything about sports.

You don't anything about success either.
