Oli “back” could just mean to START 2026?
He has one year left on his contract. Bloom has a lot on his plate(player personnel moves) and may want to see how he works “directly” with Oli now that he is the POBO?
If I were Oli I wouldn’t get too comfortable!
The St. Louis Cardinals are invested in Oli Marmol being the manager of the team, somewhat regardless of the results. Maybe he is just a super charming guy, maybe they fell bad about giving him a lousy roster, maybe he has incriminating pictures of Fredbird. I don't know why, but they are dedicated to keeping Oli in a way that they were not dedicated to keeping Matheny or Schildt who were both far more successful. Whether this is fair or not, I can't very well say but it is undeniably true.

Well, that's disappointing.
Probably stuck with him through 2026.
It's a shame they gave him that extension.
He'd be gone otherwise.
Cheap owners.
They fired Matheny with 2 years left.
They fired Schilt with at least a year left.
History says you’re a dumb[ash].

Most likely. Bloom didn’t have a say in Marmol coming back in 2026. Dewitt (Jr. or III) made the call on this one, as a favor to MO.
Best business decision Bill has made in a long time. Your team is stuck in the mud, Oli is under contract for next season, he’s a known commodity, you aren’t going to spend any $ to make the team better in ’26. Why do you need a change of manager? It would be like owning A Dairy Queen in Elsberry and firing your local yokel manager, then hiring Warren Buffet as your new manager. What could possibly be the point? From a business standpoint, you don’t need a new manager until you’ve decided to compete. And Bill has decided not to compete.

Marmol is lucky because the circumstances are favorable to bring him back next year. Matheny had worn out his welcome. Oli rode in on the short bus. They even told him not to worry about losing games in ’25. Who the hell does that? That may be the craziest thing we witnessed in ’25. Shildty was too sassy. Oli is just right for the circumstances. Unfortunately for those of us who’d like to win.
