Mootbaar is a bad outfielder at 3 spots.3dender wrote: ↑29 Sep 2025 08:54 amBecause Burly can get a lot more in trade, and Noot is more versatile. Also as much as he sucked this year he still had almost as good an OBP as Burleson.Bomber1 wrote: ↑29 Sep 2025 08:50 amWhy on Earth would you or anyone for that matter want to retain Nootbaar.3dender wrote: ↑29 Sep 2025 07:31 am On "Cardinals Territory" pod yesterday.

This what I've been saying for a few months needs to happen. Most to least likely imo: Gorman, Noot, Burly, Donovan.
I'd prefer it to be Gorman and Burly but I bet the team can't quit Burly in the most Brokeback Mountain way possible, so it'll be Gorman and Noot. I'll only be disappointed if Donovan gets dealt.
That bum stayed healthy for the first time in his career, had the most PA of his career, and had the worst season of his career.
He sucks and I hope he’s the first one dealt.
Burleson is a sold 1B and a poor outfielder at 2 spots.
Burleson is factually more versatile.

Tonight, I will provide the correct plan to address that.
Re: Woo expects 2 of Donovan/Burly/Noot/Gorman to be dealt
Burleson is one of the worst outfielders in all of baseball over the last two years - 9th worst in OAA, and 25th worst in DRS. Worst in UZR before it was shut done.
Walker is right there with him (along with Lane Thomas, O’Neill, Carlson, Arozarena, and Garcia among former Cardinals)
We should adjust our outfield expectations on Burleson.
Nootbaar is firmly in the average to above average category for his career defensively at all three positions, however he did trend slightly on the below-average side of the line this year and has a small sample size for CF and doesn’t look comfortable there.

I won't be surprised or disappointed. I expect another year of rebuild. I do think with Bloom in charge they will sign some free agents though. Mostly end of free agency when a few guys get overlooked at a discount or one year deal they can trade at the break.3dender wrote: ↑29 Sep 2025 11:39 amIt's been pretty clear and reported multiple times over the last few weeks that they're not planning to compete next year. If you're expecting them to spend the money they're saving with Mikolas/Arenado/Gray off the books, you're gonna be really disappointed.AZ_Cardsfan wrote: ↑29 Sep 2025 11:28 am All of this depends on what is the Cards objective this off season.
If it is another year of rebuild and low spending I expect none to be dealt or if dealt maybe Donovan for a high end prospect.
If they think they can retool (meaning spending a lot more) and contend in 2026 then yes a pair of them have to go preferably Noot and Gorman and they sign a RHH slugging LFer.
But who knows. There are very few players on this team I would not listen on. Well none. For the right return they are all on the table.

Well you’re plan of keeping fedde and helsley this past offseason because they would help the cardinals win and would have more trade value at the deadline was awful I can’t wait for your next awful planMelville wrote: ↑29 Sep 2025 13:20 pmSTL has too many LH bats.3dender wrote: ↑29 Sep 2025 07:31 am On "Cardinals Territory" pod yesterday.

"Nootbaar is a bad outfielder at 3 spots" is not a "fact," it is merely Melville's usual agenda-driven, bad-faith hackery.PadsFS07 wrote: ↑29 Sep 2025 13:42 pmBurleson is one of the worst outfielders in all of baseball over the last two years - 9th worst in OAA, and 25th worst in DRS. Position/IP/DRS/UZR/OAA/FRV
LF: 1,362.2/0/0.1/1/-3
CF: 852.0/-2/0.9/1/0
RF: 1,709.0/12/10.2/5/9
Total OF: 3,887.2/10/11.2/7/7
Nootbaar has played a solid RF, and has been pretty close to average in LF and CF. Even though he's clearly out of position in CF, it's noteworthy that he's managed to hold his own and not embarrass himself there in 852 innings.

And by super sub, I don't mean he's not an every day player. He's definitely showed that he can start at this level. But I do think he works best as a guy who can play all over the field and give guys a rest when needed, yet get enough starts to be considered a starter.Ronnie Dobbs wrote: ↑29 Sep 2025 12:01 pm I think Donovan has to go. The problem with Noot in CF is you can’t put Walker Herrera or Burleson out there next to him. Also with him and Scott both being LH hitters, there’s not a good path to platooning the position.NYCardsFan wrote: ↑29 Sep 2025 13:54 pm

He's not a CF. He's done what the team has asked him to do, and managed to play a respectable CF when needed, which is impressive. But I agree he is not a regular CF under any realistic scenario.PadsFS07 wrote: ↑29 Sep 2025 13:59 pmThe problem with Noot in CF is you can’t put Walker Herrera or Burleson out there next to him. IF .....
1. Nootbar is still a Cardinal in 2026 that means Marmot will bat him leadoff with the same results. So much for a great teacher. Runways, reset, results mean squat.
2. Gorman is in STL organization in 2026 - every poster has the same chance of making the Cardinals opening day squad in 2026.
3. Burl is a Cardinal in 2026, bromance won over MLB competency and bison in OF is the new low standard. Base running is evidently NOT an indicator of MLB quality.
4. Donovan is gone, team skill and performance will dive even further toward the black hole. Prefer they dump Pages, Pozo, and ??? to obtain talent.

Re: Woo expects 2 of Donovan/Burly/Noot/Gorman to be dealt
Nado has a no trade clause. Completely different situation. Its entirely possible and likely that none of the winning teams Nado wants to play for will want him.
Bloom holds all the cards with the other 4

I agree that Nootbaar and Donovan are the most likely to go. They will be making more next year than the others.PadsFS07 wrote: ↑29 Sep 2025 13:04 pm I just look at the money remaining and with Nootbaar and Donovan closest to free agency, they look like the ones they will let go of. It’s how the Rays operated for years.
Obviously, getting something back would be the goal. I could see the Angels matching up with Jose Soriano as the target.
I hope Gorman and Walker are gone too. I don't want to spend another season watching those two play.

If we moved Noot and Gorman I would be ecstatic. Dead wood with a worn out runway.
I think Donovan and Burly are two of the people along with Winn, Hererra, Crooks and our new bright shiny object, that you build the team around.
(I'd keep Fermin as well, for what it's worth).
